Bought a game but expected the physical copy of it not a download

I bought a game, expecting that when I paid for it, it would mention shipping etc and I would have a physical copy of the disc, however it has come up as a download, it is a present for my boyfriend, so how do I even give this to him?

Unfortunately it would be tied to your account and would be non-transferable. You can

request a refund for the game and then buy it as a gift for your boyfriend or buy it as a disc from a different retailer.

If you bought the game digitally then it should have downloaded with it. If you bought a physical copy then it should be on a card in the case the game came in.

Ah, that's your problem. If it was a physical disc, you still need that disc to play the backwards compatible game. Playing a physical copy, selling it, and expecting to be able to download the digital version is not how Backwards Compatibility works. You
will only be able to download digital copies of the game that were purchased via the Xbox Store on 360.

None of the information you just told me was written on the website when I bought the game. Yes, I purchased a digital copy of the game but the website did not state that I had to buy the physical copy. I paid $50 for the game expecting to get Just Cause
2 as well.

Nope, I bought the stand alone copy years ago, then later got the GOTY Edition.
