Bought a brand-new Xbox Series X from Amazon, but warranty started 4 months ago?

Hello everyone!

It is my first post here, as well as my first time ever owning an Xbox. Needless to say, I am thrilled to be a part of a new community. However, ever since I have discovered the warranty situation, I have been having a terrible time.

You see, I bought my Xbox from Amazon themselves 10 days ago, the package arrived in 22nd, so two days later. The packaging looked quite new and all, so I never doubted anything, especially considering that I bought it brand-new from Amazon themselves. However, when I went to register my Xbox's serial number to my Microsoft profile, I have realized that the warranty period of this device started on July 31st, 2022.

This makes absolutely no sense, especially considering that the box was unopened and the items inside were in pristine condition. I immediately called Xbox and talked with a representative. They said there was no previous record of this device being bought...which makes absolutely no sense. Did Amazon sell me a used device? If not, why did my Xbox's warranty start 4 months before I even purchased it?

I also noticed that the serial number of this device is written under the box, publicly visible, so the only thing that makes sense that I can think of is that someone used this serial number without necessarily opening the box.

I am here to ask if anyone had any similar experiences, or perhaps a proper explanation to this entire thing. Naturally I feel a little bummed, and a little scammed, if I indeed did get sold a second-hand Xbox for the price of a new one.

When you don't purchase it directly, most companies start the warranty from the manufacture date until you provide proof of the date of purchase like a receipt

I bought some airpods the window for AppleCare expired on 4 days later because of this. Apparently some retailers like Target aren't tied into the system that reports when your serial # was sold

No I'm saying until it's corrected by contacting customer service and providing the receipt from your purchase it's the day it rolled off the line. That's the only date they have to go on until they have your sales data

So are you saying the warranty date began when my Xbox arrived at Amazon? Sorry, I’m not a native speaker.

I bought a brand new one from ebay and it shows as 11 months warranty. So the warranty must start when the original buyer purchased it.
