    It is possible that it might be a bug that affects the player selection screen. Below are the troubleshooting that we can perform.

    1. Try to update the game to the latest version, if available. This might fix the bug or improve the performance of the game.

    2. Try to restart the game and select a different character for player one. This might prevent the game from asking for player two.

    3. Try to disconnect the second controller before launching the game. This might stop the game from detecting it and forcing you to choose a character for player two.

    4. Try to play the game on a different console, if possible. This might rule out any hardware issues with your Xbox One.
