Will XBox Series X support external DAC/Amp hardware via USB?

If your TV has an optical audio output, you could use it as the “extractor” by setting your TV sound to optical out and connecting your DAC directly to the TV.

You may not be able to use any surround DSP processing, but most audiophiles prefer stereo output i reckon.

Personally, Im hoping to run HDMI from the Xbox to my TV, and optical out from my TV to an Avantree bluetooth transmitter. I already own a bluetooth portable DAC/Amp that supports aptx hd and low latency, so it functions as a “wireless setup”.

I know bluetooth is not preferable, but since my couch is 10’ from my TV, this setup cuts down on wires running all over my apartment. The only wires would be one to the controller for microphone input, and another from my headphones to my bluetooth portable
DAC. Also allows me to be able to walk around a bit without needing to take off my headphones and i can still chat.

Wireless headset for Xbox. It's 2019!!!!

I agree having a more open standard would be nice, but there are some great choices available for purpose built wireless headsets. I use the Plantronics Rig-800s and absolutely love them.

That said, the issue you mentioned about the adapter is likely because you didn’t get one that supported APTX or another low latency bluetooth codec. Not all bluetooth audio is built equally, and certain standards are built for low latency applications like
gaming, and other aren’t. If the headset you have supports APTX, and you get a 3.5mm TRRS (tip-ring-ring-sleeve this is when there are four discreet channels on the cable for carrying stereo audio in as well as mic audio out) then you should be good to go.

I think reasons like this of the quality varying widely between competing standards which are often not intercompatible is part of the reason why Microsoft hasn’t chosen to completely open up bluetooth support. I can’t imagine the amount of posts we’d see
of people blaming the Xbox for poor audio quality or lag due to people purchasing cheap high latency headsets. Still though, having more choice would be nice.

No 360 wireless headsets will be compaitible for X1?

hmm wi fi direct hd audio and hd audio output vs bluetooth 2.1 EDR. Guys this is next gen, Microsoft are making an adapter which should be the audio companies problem, not microsoft. its like telling Ford the panasonic car audio system in the 8 year old
model does not work in the next model, and blaming Ford instead of panasonic.

Bluetooth it's unsupported for none Bluetooth device, not only for this one's, console doesn't have a Bluetooth adapter, the wireless connection used by controllers and headsets is not trough Bluetooth

Windows 11 Bluetooth not detecting XBOX One Wireless Controller

So, your PC doesn't have a built-in bluetooth module. Right?

    That could be the reason.

But, if you go to Windows Settings > Bluetooth and devices > Bluetooth, it starts the search?

Or are you using some installed interface/program to find the bluetooth devices with your USB Bluetooth?
