    Blu-Ray player - Picture Issue - DVD / non-hidef features


    Not sure if anyone else has had this problem recently.

    When trying to play back (most) DVDs or play disc features that are of a lower quality resolution e.g. 420/520 etc. the screen/picture is almost all green and flickers/pixelates occasionally showing the actual picture or a least a bit of it. (1080p/4K seem to be OK)

    The disks used to play fine as I rent/watch DVDs. (Seems to have worked around 3rd August 2021 as that was the last time I definitely watched a DVD).

    I have reported it via the reporting app and also restart/rebooted the console. (I presume an update has broken it). I'm in the Alpha Skip Ahead.

    DVD playback quality is still atrocious.

    No I would expect a blu ray player to play DVDs as good as a standalone DVD player. Blu Ray players don't magically improve DVDs. The problem would appear to be that the One blu Ray player doesn't perform well when playing DVDs in comparison to other
    Blu Ray players.

    Having said that have you tried playing a non Blu-Ray dvd ? Normal dvd's still have issues.

    multi-format drives designed to read both (I have two).



    Beyond the physical inability to read an HD DVD in a Blu-ray drive, there's the issue of software. HDi Interactive Format was the standard used to create HD DVD menus and other content on-disc outside of the actual movie files. Blu-ray uses scripts and Java.
    Unless playback software can understand HDi Interactive Format, HD DVD menus won't work and the disc won't play.



    If it was possible for Blu-ray players to play HD DVD, people wouldn't be holding onto HD DVD drives.
