Blank screen on initial setup

My son got an Xbox One S for his birthday today and I'm trying to do the initial setup.

The Xbox started, I chose a language and country and set it up using wireless to my internet connection. I went on to update

the console- download the update, verify it then on to applying. While it was applying the screen went blank and has been for over an hour- the console is still running.

I've tried using a different hdmi cable, different inputs and tried it on a different tv but the same keeps happening.

When I restarted the console, the green loading screen comes on and then go blank again.

Have I just got to be patient and wait- is it still updating? Or is something wrong?

Any help appreciated as I've not done this before!

Thank you, iveI just spent the last hour on chat with Microsoft and they've come to the conclusion its broke and offered me a free repair!

Think i will opt to take it back to store, not keen on keeping a console that brakes on initial start up!

 

It sounds like the update didn't take, try these steps.

1. whilst console is on, press and hold the power button on the console for 10 seconds till fully shut down.
2. Press and hold both the bind and eject buttons
3. Press power button and wait for second power up chime.
4. Select reset console from troubleshoot menu

This should hopefully reset the console to factory settings and pull the latest update through.

 

Thank you, I've tried that a few but it doesn't make the second power up chime.

When it powers up it goes to the green screen for about 10 seconds, then goes blank and I can't do anything on it. When i press and hold the power button on the remote it flashes up with the power off options but then goes straight off and I'm unable to
select anything

 

Are you keeping all 3 buttons on the console pressed, it can take a fair few seconds (10-20) for second power up chime.

Being the console is in warranty you can take it to a Microsoft store. Also, you can set up a repair on

Device support. We recommend getting a repair since unable to update it or get past that screen.

That's awesome they offered you a free repair.

 

They didn't offer me it as a gesture of goodwill, they offered it me because it's under warranty still, I only purchased the console 5 days ago
