blank screen after startup

My brother has an xbox one s

Whenever he starts it up after the first loading screen it just goes black

If we hold down the xbox button on the controller we can see the menu to turn off xbox and such but thats all we can do

Eventually after turning it off completely a few times i will work but then when it turns on it always comes up with the set up xbox thing in the dashboard

why is this happening?

It could possibly be having issues with your TV's resolution. Are you connecting straight into the TV/Display, or are you routing through an HDMI switch or receiver possibly?

This could happen for several different reasons. The most common fix is by performing a hard reset of the console. You can do so by either unplugging the console from it's power source or holding down the power button on the console until it completely shuts
off. If that doesn't work try changing your power source to a different outlet ( Haven't confirmed that works but a couple friends of mine have done that and it helped them ).

Update:

A friend let me try hooking the xbox up to his HDTV and it worked smoothly. Determined that the problem was that the HDMI audio extractor I had it running through had gone bad and was only transmitting sound.

I have already tried following those instructions, and I get to a point where it needs to show something other than a blank screen but it never does. I can't check the OS version as instructed if I can't see anything.

The issue could be hardware related then, it's best to check in with our chat/phone team for any additional steps as well as check on the console warranty status and setup a repair if needed.
