Black Screen upon startup

I updated my Xbox One after not playing for a few months. After the update, it asked if I wanted to install Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1&2 that I had just bought and put in. I said yes. The screen then went black. The only thing I am able to do is hold down the xbox center on the remote to bring up the "What would you like to do?" menu.

I have tried everything so far - every restart method - turning it on in low-res mode - new HDMI - different port - different tv. Nothing works. When I turn on the XBOX, it has a green loading screen with the xbox logo in the center for like 30 seconds then goes black indefinitely.

Any ideas how to fix this just short of factory resetting?

Since you have already tried everything, we recommend you to Perform an offline system update. However, if the issue persists after the the offline update, it might be a hardware issue therefore your console should be serviced.

I would second this. If none of these work, I would have to say the game itself is damaged in some way.

In this case you will have to perform a factory reset of your console, to do so follow these steps

On your Xbox console:

Unplug the network cable if you're using a wired network connection.

Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.

Wait 30 seconds, and then plug the power cord back in.

Press and hold the Pair button (located on the left side of the console) and the EJECT button (located on the front of the console), and then press the Xbox button on the console.

Note The Xbox One S All-Digital Edition does not have an EJECT button. On this console you only need to hold the Pair button (steps 5 & 6) and then press the Xbox button .

Continue holding the Pair and EJECT buttons for 10-15 seconds.

Listen for two "power-up" tones a couple of seconds apart.

***Note If you don't hear two power-up tones after 15 seconds, it means this failed. Likewise, if you hear any "power-down" chirps, that also means this failed.

You can release the Pair and EJECT buttons after the second power-up tone.

Once the console restarts, you should see the digital setup experience to guide you through resetting your console.

***Note The console restart may take several minutes. If you’re using a wired connection, plug your network cable back into the console. If you have never connected your console to the internet, you will need to connect at least once during the system setup process.

Does it lag 1 frame (upon startup) or does it constantly lag through all screens?

This is what I was afraid of, while it may have fixed some issues for others, including "rare" occurances, did they just make a bigger mess for others who haven't had many problems? Wasn't it an "update" that started regular poster UnyoBro's current, and
ongoing, streak of nothing but a black screen upon startup?
