Backwards Compatibility for Xbox Series S for Older Disc Games - And Online Account...

I have 3 generations of Xbox Consoles and about 30 games, some of which I still play occasionally.

I am interested in purchasing the Xbox S for the lower price point, however, it does not have a disc drive. So even if my games are backwards compatible, how do I actually play them? Is Microsoft allowing a free download of the games so that I can play those?
(through some sort of ownership validation?)

I am stumped as to how this would work, which will ultimately drive my decision on the purchase of Xbox X or S series. (or may be PS5?)

On a side note, I was super frustrated with the online account creation process, so much so that I returned my Xbox one S after a week. I had a few friends over and all we wanted to do was play halo with 4 players, well, found out I have to have 4 email
addresses and have to go through the account creation process which was a nightmare. Gave up and returned the console itself. Still happy with my 360, which allows local accounts/profiles.

Maybe this issue is due to my own ignorance, since I play maybe 3 times in a year, and didn't know how to properly navigate the process on the new console, but don't have the time to look any deeper.

Would like to stay in the Xbox universe if the backwards compatibility allows me to play the games I own, and if someone has a solution for the account creation process.

    :)

Planning to buy the Xbox X - But I have a 3 questions

Gold is required to play online on the Xbox. So even if it's a free-to-play game, you still need Gold to play online.

As far as the games you have on Disc, you would not get the remastered ones for free, but if they are backwards compatible you can use the discs to play on the Series X (https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/backward-compatibility?xr=shellnav)
The Series S will not have a disc drive so backwards compatible discs will not work and the games would have to be purchased digitally.

    Grandparent Gift Advice please

    1. Yes as long as it's purchased digitally

    2. Not a Series S since that game is no longer available digitally and is not backwards compatible.

    3. A Series S does not have a disc drive, so everything would have to be done online.

Thank you very much for your quick answer. That made me narrow my console-to-buy future choice.

    Best regards

    xbox one

This isn't about backwards compatibility. The op wants Flight Sim to be made available on older xbox ones & it's only available on series X/S.

    F. E. A. R and F. E. A. R files

Those two games are listed as only being backwards compatible in disc format so they would be unplayable on a Series S since it has no disc drive.
