Audio adapter supplied with the MIcrosoft Headset for Xbox1 is frozen.

Hello. I purchased the Microsoft headset recently. The first time I used it the mute button on the audio adapter light up (to show muted) and it also showed on the screen that the headset was muted. No matter how many times I press the mute button it will
not unmute.

So I have tried resetting the Xbox, updating the controller, turning the headset on and off in the volume settings and it makes no difference. As soon as the controller is powered on the audio adapter is muted.

If I remove the adapter and plug the headset cable directly into the controller (without the adapter) it works. So, I do technically have a working headset. The thing is that the adapter gives you the option of amending game volume and chat volume and I
would welcome these options if it were possible. The headset I bought is the official Microsoft XBox1 headset so I cannot see why it would not work? Am I doing something daft here? Any advice is really appreciated. Thanks very much.

No worries, just unfortunate the various solutions didn't resolve the issue.

Yes, 2 weeks ago from Amazon. I think, by process of elimination, Ive ruled out all the possible fixes now. As you say, it looks like the audio adapter is definitely dud. At least I can return it, confident that it is broken and it is not something I'm
doing wrong. Really appreciate you taking the time out here. You've been very helpful. Many thanks.

Well it seems it may be a problem with the new purchase and you need to get it replaced under warranty or repaired.

To prove its the new purchase you could borrow a friends headset etc and see if theirs works correctly on your console, or take the new purchase back to the shop and get them to test it on another console.

The steps you have taken should have resolved your issue, so I think you may have purchased a dud headset/adapter.

Run the Update wireless controller steps again with the adapter connected to the controller
and it should resolve the issue.

Not sure what you mean "usb cable with the headset"???

I use a plug/play uSB charge cable from the micro socket from the front of the controller to a USB socket at the back of the console (XB1X) to do the update.

I didn't have the headset plugged into the adapter at the time I updated, but had to run it again with the adapter connected so it was recognised by the update.
