AT&T: Help. Failure to connect XBOX to router Response is DNS not detected

if you have an DNS Error you can use an alternative DNS for your xbox.

In xbox Dashboard network Settings you can change them to google DNS.

8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Then you will not get the DNS Error Message.

If you don´t want to use it.

If you are conceted wireless to your Router and you get an DNS Error, the Router sometimes don´t transmit the DNS to all network devices. So your xbox don´t know the DNS of your Internet connection.

In your Router you can set "DNS and WINS Server Settings". If it is blank your Router would normally give it´s IP adress as DNS Server. But sometimes this don´t work especially for wireless clients. So you can fill there the DNS Server of your provider and
restart your Router.

Or you go the much easier way and use google public DNS Server in xbox Dashboard.

MurkyNote2, the problem is at the end of your ISP or Local Network (Modem/ Router). The error states pretty much what you need to know, DNS Failure. DNS is Domain Name Server, that is your ISP Connections or your Connection to
your ISP.

No - but if you can´t connect it´s a Problem with outbound connection - so no Port Forwarding or DMZ will help.

It´s possible that your Router cache something?

I would try to give your xbox other DNS Servers:

In Network Settings you can give:

Open DNS:

208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

http://www.opendns.com/

Then Restart your xbox. Does it help?

Thanks for the responses, managed to fix it.

My router had assigned my Xbox One a IPv6 primary DNS even though the router itself had IPv6 connections disabled. I was unable to change the DNS setting on the console as it kept reverting to the IPv6 DNS so had to go into my router using TelNet and make
a few changes using that to redisable the IPv6.

Xbox One now has the IPv4 DNS servers and is now working much quicker.

Sorry this reply took so long, I have done as requested. Routers firmware has been completely updated and this didn't help, However removing the router and connecting right to the modem allowed the xbox to automatically detect and connect to live. So it
would seem that I have a problem in the connection with my router.

I did notice one thing that I may have over looked, when connected to the modem directly the xbox also was assigned a primary DNS i had been leaving this as automatic but this was also not being assigned. I have reconnected my router and network and I have
reconnected the xbox, this time I have also manually configured the DNS on the xbox I would like to see if this will correct the problem.
