    Hi mike-456,

Thanks for replying! Instant-on mode strictly means that your console will come on in the background (meaning not fully) to perform any updates. Whether or not you have your update settings set to be automatically done (updates are coming in when available)
or manually when you choose to do so, would be the determining factor in this case.

Here's a great support article that can help you determine what setting is best for you: Updating your Xbox One console.

Hope that this helps out a bit more! Let us know if you have any further questions.

    :)

    Hey mike

Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. We understand that you are seeking to prevent your console from using bandwidth while it is off.

As Xbox Forums Ambassador sandy the hippy stated, depending on what power mode you are currently using, you
    would want to
change the power mode of the console
    to stop consuming the bandwidth.

This can be done by following these simple steps:

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
    2. Select System > Settings > Power & startup.
    3. Select Power mode & startup, and then select from the
      Power mode
drop-down menu to change the setting.

You want to be using the Energy-saving mode as this will make sure your console turns off completly everytime you shut it down, compared to entering a sleep-mode state in Instant-on mode.

Additionally you console will take apoximatly 45 seconds to turn on, and you will press the Xbox
button to turn it back on.

I hope this is of some use to you.

You can disable this by turning off instant on, and
turning off the option to keep your console and games up to date, from settings menu
