    Your Chrome Book might allow DNLA streaming, which the Xbox 360 will support.

    However the in-built Media Centre functions are designed for the Windows Media Centre add-on to Windows XP/7/8, Windows 10 doesn't support it.

    This sounds as though the Media Centre part of Windows on your PC is seeing the XBox.

    If this is the case there is no installation CD for this but you can make your XBox a Media Extender.

    This allows all your media to be streamed, or sent, to your XBox form your PC.

    If you need any help with this or how to turn off the notification about installation then please let me know.

    what have you tried it should be simple enough to just open media centre on your pc/laptop then clicking add media extender, open media centre on console then enter the 8 digit number on media centre.

    IMO, Microsoft is destroying the Xbox brand by using it to prove...

    Media centre on the PC works fine for me, always watch movies and shows from the PC HDD using it.

    Is it possible to get AVI files to play via Windows Media Centre through my 360??

    if you have windows 7 then media centre will stream near enough everything apart from mkv's, if your using xp media centre then download runtime 360 to your pc and that will give you the option to watch avi on the xbox through media centre but it converts
    the file on the fly.
