ARK: Survival Evolved CrossPlay- Can't join a game

Are you playing the Microsoft Store version or Steam version? The game isn't crossplayable between Xbox and Steam. If you have the Microsoft Store version, you and your friend should check if you have any pending update for the game and perform them, restart your the game and try again.

Thanks for the response. We both installed the game this weekend so we should have been on the same version, but, we checked just to be clear. I am on version 940.2 on my PC, and he is on version 940.6 on his Xbox. We both have Auto Updates turned on but when we installed the game on the same weekend shouldn't the versions be the same? Or, is it possible that the two different platforms carry different version numbers? Or do the version numbers have to match across both platforms? If the numbers must match, then how do we perform the manual update? I have checked on my PC and the only option that I have is to uninstall the game, and the option for the update is not clickable so that tells me that I have the latest version, unless I am wrong in thinking that.
