I beat the crap out of a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

It helped that it was already dead. Didn't ask how or why, just battered the corpse for all the meat and hide I could carry.

Dodos are easily dispatched with a spear.

Those spitting dinosaurs can usually be taken out with a spear, even if you get spat on, don't panic, keep poking and it will die.

Spear or hatched will dispatch those big sea cockroaches.

The medium sized dinosaurs... well if you spear one it will go running. If you have a buddy you can try and steer it to the point where it's cornered and then you can usually finish it off with spears.

I've killed turtles by sling-shotting them the head 20 - 25 times will knock them out. If I was more advanced I'd then try and tame them but I'm not so once they're knocked out... beat them with your axe like they owe you money and enjoy the hide and meat.

When you attack medium sized prey watch out that it doesn't have a mate. If it does... the mate will attack you and when dinos buddy up on you that's usually when you are in trouble.

Right now I am being trolled by an Alpha Raptor who likes to hang around my house.

I thought I'd be safe if I went inside my house.

Instead he tore himself in and ate me.

When you die it's a little like "Dark Souls". A backpack containing all your items will exist for a limited time. If you can claim it in time (not always the easiest thing to do when an Alpha Raptor is trying to eat you up) then you get all your gear back.

Brilliant game. Have a dedicated server where I play with a couple of buddies.

We thought we were cool because we'd built a raft.

We had a visit from another tribe though... in full dino motif bone armour... they had a massive boat/raft/base with a giant crossbow on the top.

Wish the Preview games let you take screenshots and captures because there have been some amazing moments.

Had the same issue with a Lvl21 Sarco. He just stomped over onto my safe island and killed me, then I respawn in my bed and he's eating my house. This went on for hours until he finally walked away and left everything in ruins.

Hey Maple.

Yes, the host has to be there if you're playing with your friends on a non-Dedicated Multiplayer server.

Brandiesel, you can play single player. I've not tried it in solo mode... but when you create your own non-dedicated Multiplayer server you're pretty much playing Single Player until you get a friend to join.

When you step out of your personal non-dedicated multiplayer server time stops. Nothing else happens until you get back.

When you step out of a Dedicated Server then the world is persistent. It carries on even while you are away.

So your houses, your fires, your gear and your dinosaurs that you eventually tame... even your character themselves need to be left with some sort of provisions or they will die or could be destroyed.

You can put a pin code on your fire and house so that nobody else can go into it. Or share it only with your tribe. That's kind of clever and ensures people cant' grief you while you are away.

Absolutely brilliant game. The graphics are awesome. There's a choppiness at times but it's a Preview Game not the finished product so I can live with it looking better than "Fallout 4" even if it isn't always as consistent with frame rate when you get
into a fight.

Playing by yourself is fun but eventually you will want to get people together and try and tackle bigger prey and larger dinosaurs.

Do me a favour Az. Let me know your server name. I know 3/4 peeps can play on your non dedicated server but I'm not sure if the host has to be present, when you are present I know we need to remain within 150m of each other. Would be good if I could get
on, join your tribe and build *** together like Minecraft.

It's a brilliant game so far.

The potential for the stuff you'll unlock as you progress is pretty impressive too.

I had a quick scroll down the massive list of craftable items and somewhere in the silly high levels is "Rocket Propelled Grenade"!

I'm still like a tourist wandering around ogling the different dinosaurs.
