Are you able to use the money you have on your Microsoft Account to purchase Xbox Music Pass?

So I bought like $250 of Microsoft money and added it to my account and I'm down to like $108. When i go to purchase the Xbox Music Pass on the Xbox Music app it lists my Microsoft account as a payment option, but it's gray and can't be picked, (I'm trying
to purchase the year membership.) Is it because I won't have enough due to taxes? (the year membership is $99.90). Or it's just not possible to purchase the Xbox music pass with the Microsoft account?

I would like to clarify that I am NOT trying to purchase music as in single songs from the music store, I am trying to purchase the Xbox Music Pass.

Hi Emily!

By any chance are you trying to use the credit on your Microsoft account? If so, I would like to let you know that you can't use the money in your Microsoft account to purchase content from the Xbox 360 Marketplace.

To resolve this issue, purchase the item on your Xbox 360 console, where you can use your Microsoft account balance to make purchases.

Can you buy an Xbox Live Gold Subscription using your Microsoft Account Funds?

Looking at the screenshot you captured it does not appear that the Microsoft Account option can be selected. It will still appear on the list but you won't be able to use it. You should not be able to use the currency in your MS Account to purchase a Gold
subscription at this time, which is stated in the Currency FAQ:

Can I buy an Xbox Live Gold membership with the currency in my Microsoft account?

The currency in your Microsoft account can’t be used to buy an Xbox Live Gold membership at this time.

Can I buy music with the currency in my Microsoft account?

Beginning Holiday 2013, you will be able to use the currency in your Microsoft account to sign up for an Xbox Music Pass on Xbox One. Dates and availability of music for purchase varies by device and region.

It is my understanding that subscriptions cannot be purchased with the Microsoft Account. This is because whatever billing method you choose must be a method that can bear a recurring charge, like a credit card or a PayPal account. Single purchase items,
like games and individual songs only charge once, so your Microsoft Account should work fine for those.

For anyone else interested in my question HyruleBalverine is correct, you can't purchase the Xbox Music Pass on your Xbox 360 console with Microsoft Currency, however, customer support informed me that you are able to do this on either a Windows 8 PC or
an Xbox One console. I do not have an Xbox One console so I can't verify that but it did work on my Windows 8 PC. I can't recall if I needed a credit card on my account just so it can renew like it does with the Trial, I think it just added the subscription
to my Microsoft Account and it'll renew that way. But it is possible to purchase it with Microsoft Currency. Thanks anyway, HyruleBalverine.

Xbox Music Pass

When you migrate your account, your Xbox Music Pass will be affected in the following ways:

•Your Music Pass is immediately and automatically canceled.

•You won’t be able to listen to music you’ve downloaded, stream music, or use any other features of the pass once the current license has expired.

•You won’t be able to use other features of the Music Pass.

However, you can:

•Purchase a new Xbox Music Pass by going to your My account page. You’ll need a payment method that works in your new region.

•Resubscribe to these services in the new region (if those services are available there).

This is because at the present time currency cannot be used to purchase a subscription with the exception of the Music Pass on Xbox One. This is stated in their

Currency FAQ:

Can I buy an Xbox Live Gold membership with the currency in my Microsoft account?

The currency in your Microsoft account can’t be used to buy an Xbox Live Gold membership at this time.

Can I buy music with the currency in my Microsoft account?

The wording "at this time" makes we wonder if they will allow it in the future though, but as it stands now this is why you can't use the currency to purchase the subscription.

If you have a Microsoft gift card for money, then you should be able to use that money on your account to purchase from the Microsoft/Xbox store.
