Are you able to pre order (when available) the Xbox series x using Microsoft account credit ?

Thanks for reaching out. We see you have question on pre-order. In short, yes you should be able to use account currency to Pre-order the next gen console. If there isn't enough currency to cover whole cost. It will ask for a credit/debit card for the rest.

Hi there, I just wanted to know if it's possible to pre-order the Xbox Series X console using my Microsoft account balance or do I strictly have to use a credit/debit card.

I bought the game stop pre order tgat turned out to be just $30. I then went to the Destiny Rise of Iron page on Microsoft Store the pre order button was greed out. I then logged in when I did it turned blue and was able to click on it to order. I didn't
order it but went an redeemed my gamestop code for the $30 to deposit my money once it was in my Microsoft account I went back to the pre order and selected to use my account balance which it did.

So make sure you redeem your gamestop code into your Microsoft account then go to or put in the search are destiny rise of iron pre order. You must select the one for pre order. If you select just the rise of iron it will take you to a different page tgat
says bundle only. Once at the pre order if logged in and you have the other content for the game on x box one not 360 as its not available for it, the pre order button will be blue to click on and pay for by you account balance or with credit card.

I have been buying Microsoft gift cards as a way to save up to buy a Series X. When the time to pre-order came around, I had $550 in Microsoft store credit. That was more than enough to cover the cost of the console and taxes. I finally got an order to go
through at the Microsoft store, but it did not use any of my store credit and it is going to charge my debit card instead. I have contacted support but was told the only way i can use my store credit is to cancel the order and re-order. Obviously if i do that,
i will not get the Series X.

This means I will probably be cancelling and will not get the Series X at launch. After already spending $550 towards it, I’m not going to spend that much again because I cannot change payment on the order to store credit. I can change cards, change it to
Paypal or even mobile billing but not store credit that is on my account. That doesnt even make sense to me.

I can confirm Smwutches' responses as accurate. Furthermore, at the end of last year we had a unique tracker that showed users their total spending and estimated MyVIP after the end of year recalibration, but the only way to see a current record for your
spending is from your commerce page (https://commerce.microsoft.com/).

You can purchase games available for pre-order using credit on your Microsoft account, a credit card, or both. You’ll be charged at different times depending on how you pay:

• Microsoft account credit. If you pay for your pre-order completely with credit from your Microsoft account, the credit will be subtracted right away.
• Credit card. Pre-orders made using just a credit card won’t be charged until right before the game is released.
• A combination of account credit and a credit card. If you don’t have enough credit to cover the whole cost of the pre-order, you can combine payments. Your account credit and credit card won’t be charged until right before the game is released.

Once a pre-order is placed, you’ll receive an email notification that includes the details of your order and the date when your credit card will be billed.

If you select your payment method as funds from your Microsoft Account, your Xbox live Rewards Credits will be used, as promotional currency in your Microsoft Account has priority. However, if your Microsoft Account funds cannot complete the purchase, you
will have to choose another payment method to complete the purchase.
