Are HDMI converters for the original Xbox legal?

Hello,

I was looking into purchasing an HDMI converter for an original Xbox so I could connect an original Xbox to a modern TV. I was doing this because modern TVs do not always have the old composite AV cable ports that the original Xbox used and needs to be displayed on a TV.

Before I made a purchase however, a few statements from the Xbox Software Licence Agreement were brought to my attention, and said statements caused me to wonder if it was legal for me to use an HDMI converter. Here are the statements.

" 'Authorised Accessory' means a Microsoft branded Xbox One, Xbox 360, or Xbox hardware accessory and/or a Microsoft licensed, third-party branded, Xbox One, Xbox 360, or Xbox hardware accessory whose packaging bears the official 'licensed for Xbox' and/or the 'Designed for Xbox' logo."

" 'Unauthorised Accessories' means all hardware accessories other than an Authorised Accessory..."

"You will not use Unauthorised Accessories or Unauthorised Games..."

Do these statements from the Xbox Software Licence Agreement mean that I would be violating the licence agreement and/or doing something illegal if I were to use a HDMI converter for the original Xbox to play it on a modern TV?

perfectly fine to purchase and use a converter, besides the original xbox is now obsolete meaning they do not support it, there is no connection to microsoft through any network either as the original xbox live is fully offline.

when they say unauthorised accessories, this means modified controllers, adapters that plug in to cheat etc etc. also means they would not accept a warranty repair if a third party accessory was used and it damaged the system.

Original Xbox, xbox 360 and original xbox one (the first of the xbox one generation) are no longer supported by Microsoft and so you don't have to worry, the adapter also does not imply a penalty, and is even advisable in current times.

If your xbox has hdmi the get a dvi to hdmi cable or dvi to hdmi converter.

1.) The delay comes from the HDMI to VGA converter, as they need to take a full digital frame information, and "serialize" it to an analogue signal that is "drawn" line by line. So check the technical specifications for the HDMI to VGA converter.

2.) Neither the Xbox nor a VGA monitor from the 00's will do 4:3 conversion. Depending on how the HDMI to VGA converter handles the conversion to analogue, you might get a 16:9 picture squished to fullscreen (i.e. long slim faces). Or, if the HDMI converter
advertises to the Xbox a certain screen aspect ratio, the Xbox could letterbox the 16:9 picture.

The Xbox gets the information about screen resolution and aspect ratio via HDMI from the display (in this case the converter). I don't know if the converter detects the CRT's capabilities via VGA and passes them along via HDMI. And if so, if HDMI can work
with the resolution and refresh rate information from the CRT.

Basically: Contact the maker of the HDMI to VGA converter and ask them how they handle it all.
