Are game captures on the Xbox Network ALSO saved to the console’s internal storage?

The new capture news is really concerning and incredibly infuriating for me, as the last 7-8 years of my childhood gaming are all jeopardized.

I want to know, before I spend 8 hours downloading clips, do captures save to the console’s internal storage regardless of whether or not they’re uploaded to the Xbox Network?

    :)

Are game captures on the Xbox Network ALSO saved to the console’s internal storage?

Hello Zach,my name is Marvina, I will be happy to help you.

I am very sorry for what you are going through, Yes, game captures on Xbox Network are also saved in the internal storage of the console.

In fact, screenshots are always saved to the console's internal storage, even if they are not uploaded to the Xbox network.

This means you can download game captures from your console even if you no longer have access to the Xbox network.

To download game screenshots from your console, follow these steps:

    Open the Guide.

    Select Capture and Share.

    Select All Captures.

Select the capture you want to download.

    Select Download.

Game screenshots will be downloaded to the "Captures" folder on your console.

If you want to delete game captures from your console, you can do so by following these steps:

    Open the Guide.

    Select Capture and Share.

    Select All Captures.

Select the capture you want to delete.

    Select Delete.

Deleted game captures will be permanently removed from your console.

These are basic solutions to these problems, but they can lead to a solution, remember that this is a public forum where we are players like you who want to help, good luck and happy day.

    Sincerely,
    Marvina.

"do captures save to the console’s internal storage regardless of whether or not they’re uploaded to the Xbox Network?"

All captures are initially stored on the console before they can be uploaded to the Xbox Network.

Only the captures you choose to be uploaded will be unless you choose automatic uploads in your Settings options.

Only uploaded captures (ie on the Xbox network) can be shared to your profile, clubs, etc.

There is a finite space for captures on the console so if space is all used up any further captures will overwrite the oldest captures.

Its possible to have a copy of a capture on the console as well as on the Xbox network but this limits your consoles storage for new captures. After uploading it's best to delete the console copy.

how to download onto internal instead of external

    Hi,

These steps apply to both Xbox One and Series X|S consoles, exactly the same method for both.

Go to Settings > System > Storage devices > Internal storage and select “Install here by default”, then when asked to confirm - select “Install new things here” to save the changes.

If you’re installing a game to a storage device without sufficient space, then the console would automatically ask you to make enough space or install the game to a hard drive that has all the required storage available.

You can also change the capture location (where your in-game clips and screenshots are saved). To change this, select your storage device and select “Set as capture location”. The capture location can be the same default storage device for games and apps - Internal or external, but not both at the same time.

There’s also options to move or copy games and apps between storage devices.

If the change to the default location doesn’t immediately take affect, then restart your console and try the steps again if needed. Be sure to wait at least 10-15 seconds before reconnecting the power to completely

    reset the power supply

Just to add, you also can backup settings, and transfer games and apps to your external hard drive to manage multiple items at once. The other option “network transfer” allows other Xbox consoles on the same network to copy your installed games and apps. These options can be found in System settings > Backup & transfer.

Here is a guide to manage storage on Xbox One and Series X|S consoles:

Manage storage on your Xbox console | Xbox Support

    Hope this helps :)

Xbox automatically clear local saved clips when they're 6 days old? How to turn off auto clearing?

    Hi Nucky Z

Check if you need to delete some clips etc to clear space on your console and Xbox Live network.

Press controller Nexus button to get >Guide> Capture & share>Recent captures>Show all to Manage captures on the console and the Xbox network.

The storage on the console only has a reserved amount available for captures, not all of the 1TB internal drive.

If the reserved space is full you need to clear some captures from the Internal drive or purchase a External drive, format it to NTFS and set it to the console capture location.

    Missing captures

You didn't mention if they are missing from the console internal drive or the Xbox network.

There is only a finite space on the console internal drive to store captures.

To my understanding, if you make a lot of game clips and screenshots that space is quickly used up and any subsequent captures will overwrite the oldest file on the drive if its full. This space is a reserved area in the system area and not the entire drive space.

If you upload your captures to the Xbox Network and/or OneDrive you can safely delete the captures on the internal drive using Manage captures on xbox console.

The alternative is to connect a external drive, formatted to NTFS, and change your capture location to the external drive. Be aware that this option doesn't allow sharing on the Xbox Network.
