Apps installed on secondary drives not being read properly after Windows 11 reinstall

I recently reinstalled Windows 11 after noticing some strange behaviour on my OS. After booting up and setting up all my old apps, I saw that the games I tried to install through the Xbox app were giving me an error (0x80070005) and stating that they had been installed at 100%.

I looked at the drive permissions and worked around some issues in the folder permissions, but I was still getting the same error and tried looking at solutions for the error code itself.

It seems like if you've already installed an Xbox Game through the Xbox app and then reset your Windows 11 installation (the OS installed on a different disk than the Xbox game), the Xbox app can no longer fully read and play that Xbox game.

I've already got a workaround, and that's formatting the drive and reinstalling the game through the Xbox app, but I'm pretty sure this is a significant fault in the Xbox app that needs looking into.

    :)

Apps installed on secondary drives not being read properly after Windows 11 reinstall

    Hi Berrik,

Welcome to the Xbox Community, you mentioned that you're getting the error code 0x8007005. Here is the official Xbox support page relating to this error code. The troubleshooting includes checking the Xbox Status page to see if there are any outages (doesn't look like there are).

Here are the steps to repair Xbox app related issues:

Repair the app in Windows by selecting Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features. Then, select the app you want to fix > Advanced options > Repair if it's available, and if that doesn't work select Reset.

Updating the app: Select the Start Windows logo Start button, and then from the apps list, select Microsoft Store. In Microsoft Store, select See more Three-dot More icon > Downloads and updates > Get updates. If an update for Xbox App is available, it will show on the list.

If you continue to have problems launching the Microsoft Store, we recommend submitting feedback for the Microsoft Store in the Feedback hub by selecting Start > Feedback Hub > Report a Problem.

    Best regards,

    XBF Drew

Microsoft Gaming Services UI issue when trying to launch a game

Same issue as OP, no need to re-post the error log but I'm trying to launch Ninja Gaiden Sigma on Windows 11 and it looks like nothing happens, the only clue is this.

Maybe it will help you guys solve it, I installed it to a secondary hard drive.

UPDATE: Took Stefano's advice, a few reinstalls fixes it. Definitely something being linked wrong during the install process.

After reinstalling Windows drive, I need to reinstall all of my Xbox APP games.

Hi ArneDH001. My name is Kyle and I'm an independent advisor.

The folder created for Xbox Games and Windows Apps is specific to your Windows installation. So if you reinstall Windows, I'm afraid you need to delete the folders from the secondary drive, or format the drive entirely.

    Thanks,
    Kyle

I'm unable to install Minecraft Launcher from Microsoft Store.

    Hello,

The Media Creation Tool worked, after disabling Microsoft Defender.

But I have some questions, how much time does Windows 11 take to install ( my download speed while downloading games around 3 MB/s)? and if I have games installed, will I have to reinstall them again after Windows 11 install? and I also heard that Windows 11 allows to install android apps, so does this version allow to install android apps too?

After an update, the microsoft gaming service was not foud, even when i installed it again (even unistalling it and reinstalling it via micorsoft store). Xbox app wouldn't even find the install location for apps. This happened after i restored the windows 11 instalation.
