Applications crashing, specifically with Unreal Engine games

Hey all, I've been experiencing games primarily Dead By Daylight. Crashing quite frequently now. I have tried a multitude of things to solve this issue to no avail. I have not had a BSOD yet

    1. I have attempted to update all of my drivers. I use an application called DriverIdentifier to do so however the following drivers I was not able to update "NVIDIA High Definition Audio" " Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)" " Intel RST VMD Controller A77F" "ACPI Wake Alarm". Although I am unaware if they are the cause of my issue or not.

    2. I have reinstalled and verified my game files as well
    3. I have underclocked my cpu from 57x to 54x since I saw online that my i914900k can have an issue with game crashes but this has not fixed anything

One vital thing that I have noticed whether coincidence or not is that the only game that has crashed has been related to EasyAntiCheat. Upon trying to repair EAC by using the setup tool it did not open/run when clicked, I disabled my firewall in case it was blocking it and that did not do anything

    4. I have ran a memory test and found no issues
    5. I have updated windows
    6. I have installed DirectX
    7. I have put "-dx12" In my game launch settings to no avail

I have attached my DxDiag file and MSinfo32 as well as my EventViewer logs to show my specs as well as included the Unreal Engine crash logs

Thank you for your help I appreciate it greatly

    Hi, Vxnquish.

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community.

From your description, I understand that you frequently encounter crashes when playing Dead By Daylight. I understand your confusion about this problem.

First of all, it is commendable that you can try to solve the problem by yourself through the solutions you mentioned.

Maybe other users can troubleshoot according to the solutions you have tried when encountering similar problems. Here, please allow me to express my gratitude to you.

Regarding the overclocking issue, have you tried to restore to the default frequency?

You mentioned that EasyAntiCheat seems to be a key factor in causing crashes. If you are unable to repair EAC, it may be due to some permissions or program conflicts. Try the following methods:

    Reinstall EasyAntiCheat:

    • Find the EasyAntiCheat folder in the game installation directory.
    • Run EasyAntiCheat_installer.exe and select "Repair" or "Reinstall".
    • Make sure the antivirus software is not interfering with the installation process.

Run as Administrator: Make sure both EasyAntiCheat and the game itself are run as administrators. Right-click the game shortcut or EAC installer and select Run as Administrator.

If it is an issue with EasyAntiCheat, please contact EasyAntiCheat support for further assistance:

Xbox Series X issues with Unreal Engine

My Xbox series s has been having from the same problem and from what I’ve seen there’s really no fix for it. I would send it in for repair as soon as you can because it doesn’t seem like a fix for this issue is coming as it’s been present since the consoles release. The only games that crashed my Xbox were fortnite and the matrix demo, the only 2 unreal engine games I own and I’ve seen others only experiencing problems with titles specifically using unreal game engine.

Next step would be to test your RAM....flaky RAM can cause all sorts of issues:

    https://www.memtest86.com/

Download the tool to a USB drive (the free tool is fine) and run it overnight, or at least when you know you won't need to use the system for at least 3-4 hours as you can't use it while Memtest is running.

If the tool comes back with no errors, which is possible, then I would proceed to start physically removing RAM sticks....if you have 2, then remove one (don't forget to ground yourself before touching anything) and try running whatever cause issues...if it still faults, then swap the RAM stick out for the other one. If removing either one stops the faults, then it is a RAM issue and you can replace it..if it continues, then it's probably not RAM and we can continue.

Whilst you have the system open, I would check all the connections in there, paying particular attention to the connections between power supply, motherboard and graphics card but generally check everything...a wire that is loose by even 1mm can be enough to cause a problem.

Assuming everything is as it should be, we need to rule out Windows or a driver as the cause...the best and most efficient way to do this is to reinstall Windows to take it back to a clean state (factory fresh so to speak)...this will require re-formatting your primary drive to delete everything off of it so I would take care to back-up anything that is important.

Download the Windows ISO from here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

Put the tool on USB and then run

Install Windows, choosing to delete everything

Once installed, go to the Windows Update area and check for Updates...install everything (essential and optional alike) and then restart your system. Go back and check for Updates again...keep repeating till none show up.

Now install your Graphics Card Driver: https://www.nvidia.co.uk/download/driverResults.aspx/197469/en-uk and then restart

At this point, we have a totally clean version of Windows to work from. At this point, only install whatever is most likely to cause the crashes ie a specific game and if it needs Steam, then the Steam client. Do not install anything else. If it stops the crashes, then there was a driver or Windows issue somewhere and you can proceed to add everything back one at a time and test.

If it doesn't stop the crashes, then it does point to hardware as the more likely source.....whilst it could be CPU, MOBO or a combination of both, it could also be a PSU issue
