    Xbox live

    A subscription to Xbox Live Gold is required for all online multiplayer.

    Without it you can play offline game modes but some games are online only, as Fortnite is.

    You will need to buy a subscription to Xbox Live Gold to play online on Fortnite.

    Some games on PS4 allow you to play online without a PSN subscription such as Fortnite and Warframe. Unfortunately you do need an active Xbox Live subscription to play any game online with Xbox.

    Update:

    Don’t think it’s a Fortnite issue as I can’t find anyone online who has the same issue re: Fortnite. They DO have the same issue with different games. I think it may be some kind of conflict. I’ve even done a complete offline install using a flash drive.
    No change.

    Anyone out there got a clue? I tweeted Xbox support but no response.

    Linked Social Accounts - is it safe for an 11 year old ?

    All they need is an Epic account to play with anyone in Fortnite, no matter the console. As a parent myself, I would keep monitoring online activity because there is a lot out there that can harm our kiddos.

    If fortnite is the only online game you play then by all means go and switch to ps4! If there are other games you play then you might want to do some more research first.
