This is really annoying me. Red Dead Redemption II, for example, used to be ready to play after four art pictures showing up, but now it always take a bit longer.

Other games also seem to load slower than before.

Is this related with the recent changes to apps/games storage layout?!

    SSD for External Drive?

I am using a 500GB SSD with an external USB 3.0 case and would buy it again.

The performance increase is very noticable and for games like Forza unvaluable.

Leaving games with no loading time on the internal drive and moving games with many loading times to SSD is the key ! :)

    120GB SSD

With an SSD, boot times and shutdown times, would be so much more quicker! 120GB would be enough for the Xbox One operating system. But you can only store a very few games on a 120GB storage device, keeping in mind, you don't get the quoted full storage
space from a device. Some of it is reserved for the system. But yes, SSD's are way and noticeably and obviously faster at loading, saving, booting, and shutting down, than HDD's, and they have no moving parts and can be more compact, too. My custom desktop
has a 1TB Samsung Evo SSD which can boot my PC in 5 seconds. Where as the 5400RPM HDD on my HP 15' laptop takes 2-4 minutes to boot up and for all the programs on the drive and desktop, to have loaded. This is the restriction with HDD technology, it's old.
Time to make way for the new.

Using external SSD increase FPS issues on Skyrim

Third-party mods aren't exactly "regulated" to keep up to performance standards of vanilla Skyrim (as far as I know), so it can quickly become chaotic the more mods you throw on the game.

SSDs will definitely improve load/access times for anything installed on it, but I doubt that it will necessarily improve frame rates for modded Skyrim.

If mod objects are loaded into the game world, they'll get loaded into the world quicker (loaded from the SSD), but while in action, that's mostly left for the CPU/GPU to juggle around. Depending on how the mods actually work and load content from the storage,
    your mileage will vary.

E3 2017 for more Xbox Scorpio info, is too far away!!

I'd also like to know if it will use an SSD or Hybrid (SSD/Flash for boot, and HDD for storage). Will it have swappable HDD's like what Xbox 360 and PS4 have. My Xbox 1 day 1 edition with Kinect takes 90 seconds to boot (500GB 5400rpm). My PS4 Pro 1TB 5400rpm
takes only 15 seconds to boot. So Microsoft need to really work on the booting times, since many people tend to not leave their console on 24/7/365! SSD's are more efficient in booting, saving, and loading; they are noticeably faster in those respects and
it's a fact. Even though they're more expensive than HDD's. They also take up less space. Microsoft doesn't have to use M.2 SSD thingy as that is far more expensive than SATA3 SSD's. One company in NZ sells Samsung EVO 850 1TB SSD for NZ$494. I'd be satisfied
enough if they put a 250GB SSD for the OS, booting; and 1TB HDD for the rest including games. Or to allow for swappable internal storage like what Xbox 360 and [the competition console] has. I could even sell my Day 1 Edition Xbox 1 console (but will keep
the Kinect) to further help reduce the amount to pay for Scorpio. On trade me, a popular NZ site, I see NZ'rs still selling Xbox 1 Day 1 edition consoles for NZ$300. PS4 Pro Sony has set a RRP in NZ of $649.

Xbox Series X - BC Related Query

Hi and thanks for reaching out. I hope you’re doing well. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you and I'll be happy to help you.

Yes, backwards compatible games will receive some benefits when played on an Xbox Series XIS, regardless of whether they are installed on the internal SSD or an external hard drive. These benefits may include improved frame rates, shorter load times, and higher resolutions, depending on the specific game and the capabilities of the Xbox Series X.

In general, games that are installed on the internal SSD will likely have faster load times and more consistent performance compared to games installed on an external hard drive, since the internal SSD has faster read and write speeds. However, games installed on an external hard drive will still be able to take advantage of the improved hardware and other features of the Xbox Series X.
