    Any help with reformatting a hard drive for PC (Previously used for Xbox Games)


    So I've been using a Toshiba Canvio Basics (1TB) External Hard Drive for extra space on my Xbox and I've finally had enough, so I upgraded to the 2TB version. I've also decided to sell my old HDD but I can't reformat on my Win10 PC. It doesn't show up under
    "This PC" where it usually does, but rather in Control Panel and under devices and printer. I can't reformat as NTFS. Any Ideas?

    Re-placing files to external HDD after formatting?

    Since the hard drive would be formatted for Xbox use, you would not be able to resave the files without reformatting it for PC use.

    External Hard drive sharing?

    No, the Xbox One will take over the entire drive, and it will not be able to be used with a PC without reformatting (and losing all the Xbox data).

    Hi

    You may need to use Disc Management utility on your PC to be able to see the drive and format it for general use. Please be very careful when using Disc Management to make sure you do not format the wrong drive.

    Try putting the drive back on the PC and reformatting it.
    Thank you for replying. I have previously reformatted the drive without any luck.

    Not able to install games on 2TB external hard drive

    Have you used the External hard drive on any other systems? (PC maybe) if so this caused the hard drive to be incompatible with downloading games and you must reformat the external hard drive.

    A hard drive can't be used on both an Xbox and PC at the same time without reformatting it. So when you plugged it into your PC, it would have wiped the drive and reformatted it for use on the PC. If you reformat it for use on the Xbox, it will wipe anything you added to it from the PC.
