When we were prompted to check our family safety settings, we discovered My 10 year old son was already ‘assigned’ to another family account. The family ‘organizer’ is a name and email address none of us have heard of, yet he can track and has all my son’s info. We are not able to ‘leave the family group’ as only the ‘organizer’ can deactivate a minor. Microsoft won’t address this type of support call with a human being. We have to try to find the answer online. Any insights welcome. Thank you.

i don't need an alias, I need to change my son's email address from mine to his

    Hi, you can try this:

As your son is the family organizer go here with his account https://account.microsoft.com/family/home > select add member > make sure to select the family organizer role > type the email address associated with your Microsoft account

Once you join to the group, double check if indeed your account is a family organizer as well

Then use your son’s account to leave the family group and revert his age changing the birth here
    https://account.microsoft.com/profile

Finally use your account to invite your son to the family group again, but select this time “family member” and not organizer
In that way you should be able to control his privacy settings and everything

Thank you Josef, that is very helpful. Since I can’t change the account in the way I had hoped, may I use another Microsoft account to serve as a family organizer? Even if I can’t change the email address on my sons account, he still shouldn’t be the family organizer at age 8. Can I use a different Microsoft account and transfer the family organizer title to that account so I can use the parental controls for him?

Setting a microsoft account Password for specific things?

My son has his own account, which is connected to my email...and my other email is strictly work
It sounds as tho the account, son's (gamertag) setup on the XBox is an adult account using your email assigned to your Microsoft account.

What needs to happen is an adult xbox account (think gamertag) needs to be setup with your adult email used for Microsoft account and then use the family setup and make your childs gamertag on the XBox a child account not an adult account.

Subject: Request to Change Family Group Organizer for My Son's Account

    Hi 태형,

My name is Aileen, and I’m an Xbox Expert and user myself. I understand how important it is to manage your son’s account properly, especially for enabling online play in Minecraft. Since this is a public forum, I can’t access or change account details, but I’ll help you with the best info on what to do next.

If your son’s Microsoft account is currently linked to a family group managed by an unused email address, only the current family organizer can remove the child’s account or transfer organizer rights. Unfortunately, Microsoft does not allow a family organizer to be removed or changed by anyone else for security reasons.

    Here are your options:

Try to regain access to the unused email address that manages the current family group. If you can access it, sign in to that Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com/family and remove your son’s account from that family group.

If you cannot access the current organizer’s email, Microsoft Support may assist in specific cases, but you will need to verify your identity and ownership of the child’s account. Contact Microsoft Support directly at https://support.microsoft.com/contactus

Explain the situation clearly, including that the current family organizer account is inaccessible, and you want to manage your son’s account properly for online safety and play.

Microsoft may ask for proof of account ownership or additional verification before making changes.

Unfortunately, there is no automated way for a parent to remove a child account from another family group without access to that family organizer account.

If you want, I can help you draft a message to Microsoft Support to explain your issue clearly. Just let me know.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

    Thank you!

    Aileen

My son can't open the Xbox app on his PC.

    Hey there!

Nice to meet you! I'm Darhyl, an Independent Advisor. I'm sorry you are experiencing this. I am here to help.

This can only mean that the system has detected that your son's account is a child account despite having his account as an Organizer on a Microsoft family.

NOTE: A child account is registered on the birthdate 21 years old and below upon the account's first creation

An adult account is registered on the birthdate 22 years old and older upon the account's first creation

In order to fix this, your son should add/invite an adult account as an "Organizer" on the Microsoft Family by going to account.microsoft.com > then go to Family.

Once the adult account was added as the Organizer, use the adult account to remove your son's account from the Microsoft family then re-add the account as a "Family Member"

Once it's done, have your son sign in to his account on the Xbox app. If the same error prompts, click on Ask by Email and you will receive permission to your adult account via email where you can grant the request.

Thank you for your time. I hope you have a great day!
