Am I the only one who feels this way about this generation?

In my opinion, this new hybrid console technology should have been introduced during the current Xbox generation (Series X|S) before moving on to next-gen systems. Not because this generation is “weak” in terms of hardware, but because it feels less impactful compared to previous ones.

We’re already approaching the end of the generation, and with Project Helix being mentioned as a next-gen Xbox, it makes me wonder what really defined this current era.

Taking the Series X as an example, it’s the most powerful console Xbox has ever made, and for a while it was one of the most powerful consoles overall. But beyond raw numbers, the actual experience hasn’t felt like a major leap in the way past generations did.

has always stood out for innovation, and that’s what feels missing here. Previous generations had clear defining moments — the Xbox 360 with its incredible library of games, and the Xbox One introducing features like 4K, HDR, and Dolby Atmos.

This generation brought important improvements like ray tracing and higher frame rates (60/120 FPS), but it feels more like refinement than a true leap forward. The power is there, but it doesn’t always feel fully utilized in a way that leaves a lasting mark.

I’m not saying this generation is bad — just that it feels like it’s missing something that makes it truly memorable.
