Am I supposed to hear these things?

I put a Xbox one disc into my series x console, the first time it sounded like it was reading the disc, and then it boosted and sounded like it was really trying to do something, so I pulled out the disc and canceled the games it was trying to download. I tried this a second time, but for another disc for Xbox one and it did the same thing. Now, I can hear my console running when it’s turned on and when I put my ear the the top of it I hear a sound coming from it.

My message came out different. I meant to say that when I am usually in close proximity to my console, I could really hear no sounds from it.

Then you don't have to worry, slight sounds when you get too close are normal.

I do hear sounds coming from it when I sit pretty close to it when it is on and running either playing games or not

It is completely normal to hear noticeable sounds when inserting a disc, these noises increase when the console is installing the contents of the disc.

You should not have any concerns if the console is working properly and no sounds are produced at a distance of one or two meters when there is no disc inserted in the console.
