Am I missing something?

So I have the xbox one without the Kinect and I bought an IR extender blaster cable thinking I would be able to change the channels on the one guide with that, I set it up and I still cant change the channel through the one guide on my controller even with
the blaster plugged in. I entered my cable box and tv manually and I can see the picture through my xbox but I just cant change the channels through my controller, even tried it with smartglass on my surface and phone and still nothing, So am I missing something
or what? Can you even change the channels with the controller? Or do I need the Xbox one media remote?

Gawd I am missing out too much

Just watched a YouTube video about the best 2018 trailers and my gawd the realization of missing out on it. The graphics are so artistic and beautiful. The facial animations are also improved a lot. I am excited just by watching those videos. Something I thought was lost was regained. I have to say thanks to the game developers who took the efforts to make all the happen. Really hope the game will play just as well as the trailers. The those looks very great. Now, not all games are exclusives to Xbox of course, but, I am a Xbox fanboi, so I am just making a shout out here.

The IR Blaster is for use with the remote for your cable service. A controller will not work for that.

 

Did you go through the setup menus on the Xbox? It should step you through the setup and test out sending commands to the cable box, did that not work for you?

My understanding is that you don't need to use the IR cable if you have a Kinect, since the Kinect already has IR beams built into it that blast the commands all over the room to be picked up by your devices. You shouldn't need to use the cable as long as
your Kinect is plugged in and working.

 

It worked all fine and I could see the picture and volume just cant change the channel through the one guide but No I don't have the Kinect I can change my channel with my regular remote on the xbox one but I cant use the one guide with it so its kind if
pointless, but I was wondering would the Xbox one media remote work for changing the channels through the one guide? or do I need the Kinect no matter to change channels through one guide? Kinda pointless if I cant use the one guide and just my regular remote
on my xbox, ill go out and get the media remote if that's what I need
