My son’s Xbox had an issue with the disc reader so we took it to a local repair shop. They were unable to fix it so we took it back and then found it didn’t work at all… it says Update required but won’t update. Can we still send it to Microsoft now that someone else has meddled with it?

    :)

Am I able to send XBox to Microsoft after a shop has failed to fix it?

Hello and welcome to our community!

We’re excited to have you here and have great conversations! I'd be happy to be of assistance.

I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. Is your Xbox console still under warranty? If it's no longer under warranty, you may still be able to send it in for repair, as long as the warranty seal has not been broken or tampered with. If the seal is broken, unfortunately, the repair request is likely to be declined.

To get started, sign in at https://account.microsoft.com/devices/select-de..., select Register new device using the 12 digits serial number located at the back, and then follow the instructions.

After you've registered, you'll see the warranty status for your device. If it's within warranty, repairs are free. If your device is out of warranty, you'll be charged a repair fee. Another option would be visiting a computer repair shop and repairing it from there.

In the meantime, if you're having issues with the update, could you please tell me more about it? Are you getting some sort of error messages or codes? You can try the following steps:

A: RESET CONSOLE TO FACTORY DEFAULTS

    1. Turn off console by pressing the power button within 10-15 seconds

    2. Wait for 60 seconds

    3. Make sure to press and hold the BIND button and the EJECT button, and then press power button on the console to turn it on.

Make sure to keep holding the two buttons until the Xbox Troubleshooter page will appear. This screen should show Offline Update, Continue and Reset. If you see this screen, select Reset > Keep Games and Apps and if it still does not work, choose Remove Everything.

    B: USING A DIFFERENT NETWORK

Connect your Xbox to a different Network. For example, a data connection on your phone, then set it as hotspot. Afterward, connect your Xbox to that hotspot and see if it will continue with the update. Additionally, try to connect your Xbox via direct WIRED connection to see if it works.

    C: OFFLINE UPDATE

Perform an offline update outlined here:

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need further assistance.

Am I able to send XBox to Microsoft after a shop has failed to fix it?

    Hello Kaylie,

My name is Jeff, and a fellow gamer. I am also part of the Microsoft Insider.

Regarding your inquiry, yes, if the console is out of warranty you have the option to have it checked elsewhere. And if you decide to send it to Microsoft for repair, you can also do that as well.

FIrst, visit this link using a web browser:

https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/warranty-service/getting-your-product-serviced , once there, expand the tab for "Out of Warranty Service Cost", this should show you the pricing for repair. If you decide to move forward, you can follow the steps in the same article on how to send your console to service.

    Kind regards,

    Ping

    Console keeps freezing.

by the sounds of it it sounds like your console has a fault with it.so take it back to the shop you bought it from or send it back to Microsoft to get fixed

Xbox unexpectedly turns off without any warning

    1. its against forum rules to discuss self repair.

    2. now you have opened your xbox you cannot send for repair to microsoft.

    3. you would need to find a local repair shop that may be able to fix it.

    RRoD out of warranty

The console has to be taken to a Microsoft certified/approved shop. The shop doesn't do the repair, it sends it to Microsoft for the repair. Hence my comment.
