    I recently upgraded from Xbox One X to Xbox Series X and lost my surround sound - need help to fix

    1. My Samsung TV NU8000 only supports ARC (not eARC) and adds a big delay when transferring DD surround to my Yamaha Receiver from my TV. So, this is not an option.

    2. My receiver is older and only supports HDMI 2.0 and can't passthrough Freesync, 4K 60hz or HDR. So, HDMI via my Receiver is not possible since i loose too much picture features/quality

    3. With my older Xbox I could use PSDF/Optical cable from my Xbox to my Receiver, and use that audio input on my receiver when playing, but this option is no longer available.

    So now I am back to 2.0 stereo sound coming from TV to my Receiver via PCM passthrough
    - I have searched for a HDMI 2.1 splitter on the market and cannot find one
    - There are also no HDMI 2.1 audio splitters that I can find
    - I cannot find any USB to Optical cable adapters that is supported by Xbox

    Please help - It seems that the only way for me to get back surround is to upgrade my receiver to a newer one that supports all the newer HDMI 2.1 features.

    HDMI --> HDMI + Optical out

    Cheaper alternative is a sound card with an optical out port. More expensive option would be a receiver that has HDMI in and out along with an optical out. Don't need a new motherboard. Soundcard internal PCI or PCIe or external with an optical out are between
    $30-80 and receivers with HDMI and optical out are I want to say around $200 for the low end, but an investment if you want to get a full surround speaker system to go with it.

    Have two sound cards in my PC and the motherboard has on board so I have three optical outs and two in.

    XBOX One won't pass surround sound through HDMI Pass through..

    For me, my ideal setup would be hdmi from cable box to xbox to surround in. Then surround out to one of my hdmi in's on the tv. I suspect that I might have to run optical out from cable box to optical in surround. I'd rather not have to switch inputs
    from hdmi one for xbox/cable to surround for blue ray.

    Optical out patch coming soon ?

    If your receiver supports DTS surround sound, then you can get surround sound from your XB1 via optical cable. Right now it's the only option for surround sound via optical. It would be nice to know when they're going to start rolling out some system updates.

    Yes, the Optical and HDMI In port can't produce surround sound.
