Allow you to only customize the classic gamertag without changing your normal gamertag.

I'm trying to change my classic gamertag which is the one you see in games. My classic gamertag got changed and my Xbox One and Xbox App gamertag stayed the same (the Xbox One gamertag is the ones they added with the new gamertag system).

My Xbox One gamertag is different to my in-game gamertag and I want my classic gamertag to be changed. You can only change your classic gamertag on the Xbox One console, I have tried using the other ways and you can only change your Xbox Gamertag, not your
classic gamertag.

The reason I want to change my classic gamertag is that the classic gamertag can be fifteen characters and the Xbox One gamertag can only be 12 characters. If I use the other ways to change my gamertag it limits me to 12 characters and sets both my gamertags
to that.

You cannot change the suffix that was added to your gamertag. If you'd like to change how the classic gametag appears for locations that don't support modern gamertags, you can se the "Customize classic gamertag" option when reserving your gamertag.
NOTE: A suffix is added when that exact gamertag is already registered. If you enter a unique gamertag, no suffix will be added.

What you are realizing is that's the limit on how you can customize it

The hashtag is NOT Chooseablr

It's randomized to prevent double gamertags

That being said your only customization options is to have the number together with your name

The only custom.part is the name you choose that's it

The classic gamertag you are referring to is how your name is displayed on older games destroyer1618 as in your example

Your new gamertag would be destroyer#1618

As per the new system

The reason being is older games don't support symbols

So the classic gamertag is destroyer1618

The old 360 gamertag is now considered a "classic" gamertag. You would need to change your tag again. If it gives you the option to change the classic tag, you would only change that one. Or you would change it on a 360.

You're not understanding his question. It's not a question of a gamertag being in use, it's the fact that you are unable to change the legacy gamertag without first changing your new gt that can be whatever you choose. Only then can you hit customize on the legacy tag, which is still the primary tag in games. In his case he has the tag he wants therefore he isn't able to change the tag progressing him to the needed screen to customize the legacy tag. The problem is Microsoft added a "new" gt system without removing the previous then screw it up further by only allowing one to be customized.
