After recent updates the headphones / headset no longer works on Xbox One controllers, any...

Thanks for the updates on what you have tried. When you ran the update for the controller did you have the headset plugged in, if not try with the headset connected? Also, what type of controllers and headset do you own? If they are third party headsets,
the recent update to the OS sometimes makes third party accessories not work correctly until a patch comes out.

Hey Brad, thanks for the reply. I tried updating the controller numerous times with the headset, with the headset adaptor, without anything, etc. on both controllers. My older controller is the regular Xbox One controller, which does NOT have a 3.5mm headphone
jack, and my newer controller is the Xbox One Phantom Black Controller, which does have the headphone jack. I am currently using a Skullcandy headset...the sound on the newer controller that I used stopped working one day after I plugged in the headset, and
the sound on the older controller stopped working about a week later while I was playing a game.

I would recommend trying a pair of regular headphones with the controllers currently owned that do not work with the headset. If they work with the headphones, it could be an issue with the headset jack and xbox controller port not working together anymore.
It could be due to an update or compatibility issue.

If the headphones do not work with the controller then the controller needs to be replaced. If it is a first party controller, please contact support at

Thanks for reaching out to us! So, the second headphones being used cause the screen to flicker when plugged into the controller? I do have a few questions:

• Is it the whole screen that flickers when the headphones are plugged in?
• What type of headphones are being used?
• Is there any sound at least when the second headphones are plugged in?

The reason the headphones do not work could be because they are not compatible with the Xbox Console/Controller. Check out the following links:

Hi I am having the same problem at the moment, The game I was playing ''Apex Legends'' was all working perfectly with sound through the headphones then when I turned off the Xbox for a couple of hours then turned it back on the controller was no longer detecting
the Headphones.

I originally thought the headphones died so I bought some brand new ones and they were still not even detected, so I then bought a brand new xbox one official controller and they still did not detect my new or old headphones through the 3.5mm jack. I also
burrowed my brothers controller (which works with the headphones on his xbox) and was still not detected on mine (the controller's are showing no signs of anything being plugged in)

I have since soft reset the Xbox one S and even done a hard reset to no avail, I have also bought the headset adapter to plug the headphones into instead of the 3.5mm jack and yet my headphones are still not detected. My headphones both work perfectly on
any other device just not connected to my controllers.

The strange things is the original standard headset with mic (which I got with the console) still works perfectly on both controllers through the standard connectors.

This first occurred on the 18th/19th this month, so the only possible explanation is that an update or patch is basically restricting 3rd party headphones from even being detected on the controllers/console.

I can't play any games I like atm as I need the Headphones for the additional sound effects like footsteps, I have also spent over £100 on new controllers/headphones just to get the console to detect them, but nothing works?

Any help/advice would be much appreciated please.
