After reboot stuck on update screen and controller won't connect

I've rebooted my "original" Xbox One console by disconnecting power, waiting a minute or so, then reconnecting power and booting.

The system then goes immediately to a Let's Update screen with the "Start Update", "Skip & Stay Offline", "Turn Off Console".

Problem is, I cannot get either of my controllers to connect. Push the sync button on the side of the box. Both console and controller lights blink but never connect. I don't have a USB cable to connect, at least that I know of.

So, I'm stuck. Can't get past the update screen to try anything else.

Any suggestions?

same issue was kicked offline to update did so after update black screen for 20m did a hard reboot now stuck on green screen. download offline update tool. Will update if it solves the issue

If you're stuck in the green screen, after rebooting from a stuck preview update, try a cold reboot. Press the Xbox logo, so the Xbox switches off, then switch off power supply. Leave it for a few minutes, then start it up. It worked for me, but stayed on
the green screen for about 10 minutes before finally starting proper. Hope that helps.

Try updating your xbox with a wired connection as you normally get a better internet connection when you do this. I updated mine with a wireless connection but for some strange reason after the update my xbox console doesn't look any different to what
it did before the update, so I don't know if the same will happen to you. When you say it won't update do you mean it is stuck on a particular part of the installation screen or won't download at all?

Thanks for coming to the forums with your issue with updating your controller. The easiest way would be to use a console. You don't have any friends, family, neighbors with an Xbox console? With it stuck like it is when you connect to the PC it will not
detect it at all. Try powering off the PC with the controller plugged in. Then power it back on see if it recognizes the controller after reboot.

I'm also getting stuck at a black screen after the update. Twice now I hard rebooted after I let it sit at the black screen for nearly 20 mins. Now my xbox is stuck offline because it needs to update. Can't even check registration status on the preview
dashboard or opt-out because I need to be signed in. Hopefully this gets fixed soon because this thing is utterly useless without xbox live...
