I recommend taking a look at the following troubleshooting articles:

• Connecting a compatible headset to Xbox One
  
• Xbox One controller and headset compatibility
  

If the problem persists:

• Try your Xbox One Stereo Headset with another device, such as a laptop, to see if the headset is working. If not, the headset will need to be replaced.
  
• Try your Headset on another controller, if you can. If the headset works on the second controller, try
  updating the first controlleragain.
  If that fails, the controller will need to be replaced. To order a replacement, go to the
  Xbox Online Service Center.

I have the same headset for my PC and to use it on my Xbox One it needed to be connected via the controller. To do that you will need a connector that joins the headset and mic jacks into one jack to plug into the controller. In the end my experience with
them on console was sub par and I ended up picking up a separate headset for my Xbox. Hope it helps

The difference with controller though is that if they 'crap' out on you then you are able to buy a replacement. Not sure if that is going to be possible with Kinnect 2. I'm sure you'll be able to buy them off of Microsoft if it breaks out of warranty, but
it's not the same as nipping out to a shop and picking one up is it? Still, if the Kinnect 2 needs to be bulletproof for the Xbox One to function after the RRoD fiasco I really do expect Microsoft not to mess up this time.

• Chatpad would be one. I like it not only for the function it just gives the controller a bit more weight and a different feel.
  
• AX360 and AXPro headsets.
• Wireless Mic
• New Silver controller with transforming D-pad and textured controller surface.
  
• My hacked together headset for use under my AX360s made from a horrible Plantronics low profile headset. Replaced the 2 inch mic boom a nice long flexible microphone that came with my AX360s. Easily the best one at picking up when I talk.
  
• Cheap 4GB thumb drive to keep copies of game saves on.

I think this may be possibly a firmware issue with the the controllers. I bought a new (used) controller, the one that is coming with the current systems. I'm still using my original release XB1 from 2013. My old controller works fine with the headset.
(The micro usb is bad on it hence replacing it). The new controller I picked up is used, but in perfect condition. It's what is currently being shipped with newer consoles. The head set I use is Turtle Beach X0Four, plug in to the controller. I am having
this same issue. The headset itself works, but it does not detect the mic. I have done all troubleshooting steps as mentioned https://support.xbox.com/xbox-one/accessories/wired-headset-help?linkId=15835542 and repeated them, to no avail. I will take the
controller back and try and find an older replacement since those still work. For now, my work around is just swapping out controller batteries when needed since my controller can't charge them.
