"Advanced Installation and Management Features" doesn't work in Xbox app for PC

Sorry for asking this question in the English community because there is no "Game" section in the Chinese Microsoft community.

2 months ago, Microsoft updated the Xbox Insider Hub, and users can use "advanced installation and management features" in Xbox for PC by turning on "windows gaming". This allows the user to choose where the game files are installed, the files are not encrypted, and makes it easier for the user to use mods such as language patches.

But after I do this, although the installation folder is set to "XboxGames", the new game is still installed under the "WindowsApps" file with the same drive letter and encrypted. In addition, it may be related that the "Select Installation Folder" in the setting interface is invalid, and only the "XboxGames" folder under the drive letter and its automatic root directory can be selected.

And I've tried it on other computers in my house that have never installed the Xbox app, and it still doesn't work.

Already updated and reinstalled the Xbox App, and also reset as suggested by other answers, to no avail.

But the reason is not the problem you mentioned. I found it on the Chinese Internet, and the situation is too complicated. Some netizens even said that it still exists after reinstalling Windows 10. So for now, I have given up on solving it😂, and only wait for the official version to come out.

There is a limitation on the the insider feature. Not all games allow you to set the install outside of the WindowsApps folder. I'm sure this will be changed in-time and hopefully after the this insider feature becomes the norm for Xbox Game Pass/Windows Store installs.

To know if a game can be installed to the none encrypted 'XboxGames' folder, the title itself must say Administrator approval required for installation.

However, through subsequent attempts and inquiries, I think that the computer with the "advanced installation" problem has a problem with the operation of the Xbox app before the "advanced installation" is enabled, rather than the Xbox Insider itself.

My computers in question were unable to successfully create a desktop shortcut to the game before and after enabling "Advanced Installation and Management Features". And the top of the app will prompt an error, and clicking it will jump to Microsoft's error 0x80073d26 page. (Although it does not affect the main functions of the app, such as downloading and running games)

And my 4th PC running the Xbox "Advanced Install" succeeded, it had no errors before and after enabling the "Advanced Install and Management Features" and successfully created the shortcut. By the way, I've already tried "Reinstall Windows from this device". still doesn't work.

Inside the Xbox app, go to Settings > General

Uncheck "Use advanced installation and management features"

Then close the app completely and restart. Unfortunately, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the game but it should work.

Same over here. And I don't have this "Use advanced installation and management features" button in the Xbox app's Settings/General.
