Adding a digital console to home

Fellow gamers...help please.

im running an xbox one (disc version) for my son but ive added a digital 's' console in his spare room.

can he still continue to play his FIFA 20 game from his disc console on the all-digital console without losing any of his saved progress?

Ok hang on ... i think im getting it now....so: the rule is, one game purchase per console? Right?

and when you purchase (or re-purchase) a game, assuming youve done what ive just done and added another console to the home its going to be his xbox live sign-on that allows his progress to 'port' across consoles?

Ok i think im there gang.....so i cant avoid re-purchasing games (so he can enjoy games on both consoles).

But ... once i have bought another copy of a game can he can save his gaming progress across both consoles just so long as he remains signed into his 'live' account?

For context, all he wants to do is play fifa20 on his old console in our spare room and when he moves into his bedroom (where his new digital console is) he wants to continue where he left off.

No, as Smwutches says, the disc is like proof of purchase.

Example, if you had the digital version of the game, he could install and use it on both consoles... meaning neither of you would require the disc at all

So.....how should re 're-load' the game onto his new additional console seeing as the new console is 'disc-free?

All save progress is in the cloud and will be synced upon launching the game. Your save progress will be always up to date no matter which console you're playing on
