Acquiring licence

When it comes to backward compatible games there is a few issues.

The licence rights to the in game music usually expired and will be costly to acquire again. Especially with the Need for Speed franchise. As many of the music used is licenced for use by the developer for a short time.

It is all up to the developer of the game.

If they still have all the licence rights to the in game music then it should not be an issue.

Most games that is not on BC is hindered by the licence rights of the music in game, which will cost alot more to acquire than they will make from exstra sales from the game it self.

There is certain things that will prevent a game to be added to the backward compatible library.

Licence rights to in game content like music has expired and will be costly to acquire them again.

The developer is no longer in business and this will make it even harder to get the licence rights for BC.

The team always tries to get most games to be BC, but the licence rights keeps them back a little.

For now there won't be any new additions to BC as the team is focusing on Project Scarlett.

Some games is not available in all regions. As the required licence rights was not acquired at the initial launch of the game.

We are also not able to "claim" the Games with Gold game of Bolt in my country, South Africa.

The Backward compatibility program is on hold, as mentioned.

To have a game be added to the BC library the developer needs to give Xbox the permission as the developer owns the licence rights to the game. If the developer is no longer in business it will be a difficult task to add it to the library.

Sometimes the game won't be able to be added as the licence rights to in-game content like music etc has expired and will be costly to acquire again.
