Accounts are considered a child account until 21 years old

I was a kid when I made my Xbox account. My dad added me to his Microsoft family. Now I’m 18 and I still can’t do certain things. When my dad goes to remove me from his Microsoft family it says that I will still have a Microsoft account but I won’t have access to Xbox or Xbox services until I’m added to a new family.

I spent an hour on the phone waiting for customer service just to be told that the age that Microsoft considers an adult is 21. You’re telling me I can vote but I can’t change m settings without parental permission.

The age that an account should be considered an adult account is 18.

my daughters account was upgraded to adult when she turned 18 and is now removed from parental controls, my other daughter turns 18 next week and I have had the notification to upgrade the account to adult and then ill be able to remove from the family too. this is in he UK though where being 18 is classed as an adult.

I am 21 years old, so it shouldn't be a child account.

The thing is i'm 21 years old. However I did infact solve the problem now.

Turns out i just had to promote a child account to an adult account. I can now access it.

I just want to clarify, are you trying to change your profile picture to a custom profile picture?

If you are trying to change your child account to an adult account, it will not be possible because even if you change your account's birthdate, the system will still detect that your account is a child account based on your account's birthdate upon creation.

The only way for a child account to graduate to an adult account is to wait until your original birthdate turns to 21 years old.
