Account was hacked a long time ago, have tried to recover it for years with no success.

Dude, all i can say is......... I KNOW YOUR PAIN. I got literally annilhated about 10 days ago. Mine were from Bulgaria (?!), and i know very well that they were professional and knew what they were doing, as im a systems engineer and network administrator
(in many past lives ago). I was arrogantly confident that my home base was locked and secured.

You name it, i had it. Multiple passwords every few months, 'alledgidly' (B*******r) the BEST Total security system in the world, well, thats what they claim here in Australia. Not only that, i also ran in conjuctio; C*******r, M******s and a couple of useful
functions from the operating system itsself. I had firewalls everywhere, loggers to and I am still in complete and utter confusion as to how they got it. I am not one to tell people my passwords and then give them the keys to my house.

ZeroIce and Thisgame are dead right, generally they'll get you through your email accounts. It'll start off with a password being 'incorrect', so (if you are smart) you can always fall back on your phone/autheticator/alternative email etc etc, HOWEVER if
they are persistant enough, given time, that info is easily gathered up and then used in either financially mallicious behaviour or just plain old mischeif.

Anyway, i rambled a bit there, but i think its an interesting story and like you did 2 years ago, i am currently going through three different email providers, a 'music' giganaught (who have been easily the best and sorted a solution out that very day),
i do quite a lot of time on line (thus the overkill - or perhaps the wrong overkill in protection, unless they saw a challenge) and the AMOUNT of screaming and yelling phone calls ive been have with people explaining the whole purpose of 'security measures'
like leaving 'location on' and giving them 3 different emails, with 3 different numbers etc etc etc is so that the person screaming at them on the other line is the legitatmate owner of said account. By the way, the Police, Total Security Software Team and
even the Telco (who would quite easily be able to see the 200GB's - unless its a vpn nowdays) didn't want a bar of it. The cops to ME to collate the envidence and then hand it in. Anyway, the mail provider that you are talking about were quite good to m....
but then again, i called them 3 hours after it happen, clearly not in a pleasant mood. Now i've got possibly a few years of identify theft and whatever the hell else i had on the various harddrives they plundered.

Oh yea, 'Bulgaria' - i forgot to mention, when I said the house got hacked, i mean the HOUSE, two routers, four laptops, two desktops, a NAS, 4 mobile phones, 2 ipads even the weather monitor outside that i had to put on its on static IP addy casue it was
clashing with something else when i bought it. Yes, EVERY item had various passwords/security devices and one or two other things, including the 'router access' which no one ever changes. Oh yea, 'Bulgaria' again, why do you ask i am 100% sure it was Bulgarians
? Becasue when they took stuff off my Ipod, once i got back into it, there was a lovely little 20 odd page manifesto, from my new best friends, bascially exclaiming the the main Total Security guys that i use '..... have been making millions selling a defunct
product for years and years and these people (didnt even give themselves a cool moniker) were doing the 'noble and righteous thing' by proving to 'the unbelievers and denilests' of these 'fat corporations' (and yes, im quoting here) the 'the poeple' have had
enough and that this is the start of a new world order blah blah blah.....the usual tripe from self--righteous and the underected potential that they clearly had. Anyway, that was a rant, and hopefully no one else suffers the same fate as us dude, ive been
in front of my computer for days obviously pouring through code trying to see where the footprints lie....... i have found one thing VERY disturbing though.... If anyone can, stay away from the 'other massive email provider who may or may not have a internet
browser ad may or may not sell various gadgets that are supposed to make your life easier', cause I know had straining it is to flick on a light switch....... I have discovered ALOT of things that means ive already made alterior arragements. Thats all im going
to say about that.

Very poor advice. If you can monitor that account in any way , then do so , contact your financial institutions, find out if someone has made changes, I would change ALL passwords if you think anyone tried to get into your accounts. Thats's for starters.
They are doing away with all passwords eventually anyway, about time.

Unless you can figure out what the email that the account was set to there's most likely no way to even get anywhere close to belong able to dos something about it. A phone number connected to the account could suffice in some cases I believe. Without some
sort of definitive digital paper-trail that could be followed with like loss of assets from your bank account or something of a higher stake, there's most likely nothing the investigation team can do if they can't find where the account went off to.

Your best bet would be to keep trying. You could eventually figure how to get back in and happened eventually.

I would leave that account alone. B y the way are you using a really strong password?? It helps and make sure you dont have your microsoft linked to too many unsecured apps that is how they hack sometimes..... THose third party apps are very weak and
give access to your secure accouns just saying
