Account still labelled as a child account despite the Date of Birth being in 1999.

Hi,

For the last few years now, my account has remained a child account despite the date of birth indicating that I would obviously be over 18. From previous FAQs and boards, I am advised to access the parental account that is linked to mine. However, we have lost the details for Totherclock1, specifically the email address and as a result, I cannot update my profile. This has been incredibly infuriating as I cannot change any of my privacy and online safety settings at will.

Is there anyway I can be allowed access back to the parental account to change these settings? I am sick of being restricted by an account whose purpose is no longer required.

Hello Honeydewing, if you do not have access to the account that was the family organizer, unfortunately it will not be possible to remove it or pass it on to an adult.

Just because you changed the date of birth on the account does not mean it changed when an account is originally setup and the date of birth is put onto an account that is the date of birth that will always be on the account.

Now if that date of birth has reached its 18th birthday and you are still getting that message that means your account is still under a family as a child account.

If this is the case you would need to sign into a parent account for the family at account.microsoft.com/family and remove the child from the family and this will put the child account into its own family as an adult.

Now if you do this last step and the date of birth on the account when it was originally setup has not reached its 18th birthday then it will be considered an orphaned account and would NOT be able to do ANYTHING until put into a family as a child account.

When you have an account that starts as a child account, changing the birth date from what was originally used does not make it an adult account.

Until the original birth date that was used on the account, reaches the age of 18, the account will still remain a child account regardless of the settings you change.

Thank you for reaching out to us here on the forums with this situation. I understand you're having trouble accessing an app due to being on a child account. If the account was set up as a child account changing the date of birth from the Microsoft account
will not change the Xbox Profile from being a child account. It will keep saying it is a child account until the originally entered date of birth become 18 years old. You may have to use a different adult account to do the desired actions.

If the child accounts aren't 18+ by date of birth then they'll still be subject to the child restrictions regardless of the parental settings.
