Account security takes 30 days

This measure exists only to provide better security to you. Consider a scenario where someone gets access to your account and then change all the security options for you that will prevent you from using your account. There is such a long window so that
if you think your account is compromised you can take proper actions.

This is actually a security measure.

Where they are trying to send the code to is what they call a Security Proof.

This is used to verify ownership of the account when you say forget your password, try and make any major changes like if you want to change the email, phone number, add your account to a new device, even sometimes when making purchases just to verify that
no one has gained access to the account that shouldn't.

Now I am guessing by you saying that it is your secondary email that you no longer have access to that the email that is used to sign into the account is a MS server email (Hotmail, Outlook, MSN, live) email and yes this would require a secondary email for
the security proof because it would be the same password to check those that you would use to sign into your account with so if you were to forget your password then you would not have access to the email to check for the code to be sent.

Now If you know the email and password for the account but DO NOT have access to any of the security proofs that are currently on the account MS will allow you to change the security proof on the account BUT there is a 30 day waiting period before that change
takes affect.

Again this is for security purposes so that no one gets ahold of your account and doing things that they are not supposed to be doing.

Wow that does sound pretty bad. Almost as bad as security measures that prevent you from using your own account...

updated information on the account including secondary emails/phone numbers.

What blows my mind is that they send the code to your secondary email. Why cant they just send it to your main email, just like every other normal site out there. It’s a yahoo email so the passwords are different. Then if i choose phone number to have
them text me a code it says its already linked to an account. My account... which I can log into just fine. I’m literally trying to give microsoft money and they wont let me.
