If you get an email from Microsoft account team and the email address domain is @accountprotection.microsoft.com, it is safe to trust the message and open it. Microsoft uses this domain to send email notifications about your Microsoft account to notify account holder that someone is trying to access the account. If you were the one who access the account, you may just ignore the message and make sure to update your security information.

To manage the security info for your Microsoft account, you need to:

1. Sign in to your Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com/account/ or https://account.microsoft.com/security.
   
2. Select Security and then select Update my info or Advanced security options.
   
3. Under Ways to prove who you are, you can change or remove/add security info for each section, such as phone number or email address.
   
4. Enter the code sent to your new phone number or email address and select Next.
   

It’s important to keep your security information up-to-date so that you can recover your account if it’s hacked. Thanks for your response, I didn't request a security code so wasn't too sure but have followed your steps and changed security options for my account thank you for your help 😊

If you are genuinely concerned that someone else is logging into your account, then the best thing to do is to
change your password.

Sorry for the sarcasm. It's genuinely just security procedures, but Microsoft has possibly the best security in the world with data and the Data Protection Act of 1999 means that they are not allowed to use your information other than for security for if
your account gets hacked. Remember the more security proofs the more chance of receiving your account if it gets hacked, but remember it is optional. You don't have to, but I recommend it. Sorry you feel this way.
