I have the same problem. I've set him up an outlook email address so I can manage his usage under a Microsoft family account.

Changing the log in to my son's email address will simply make the master account (currently my adult account) his? doing it that way will stop me from adding any child restrictions on though surely?

You can't transfer Xbox accounts to another Microsoft account (this is what you want). It's not possible.

You CAN change the login email but you CAN'T change it to an Outlook or Hotmail or Live email since those are Microsoft emails.

Your son will have to either keep this account he's on or start fresh on a new account. He can keep his games and most DLC by using the

my home xbox feature to share games to a new account but any progress can't be moved in any way.

It isn't possible to transfer accounts. You can change the email address, there are risks that by deleting the existing email address, it will delete your account.

No. Nothing can be transferred between accounts.

Games and data are tied to the account that bought them. They can not be moved. You can however set the account who OWNS the games as Home on his Xbox so he can still play them.
