Account Marked for Closure not closing

Hey! I have an old account that I have not used in a long time, someone is keeps trying to hack my account from overseas (probably using a VPN or whatever, who knows) but I keep getting sign in codes sent to the backup email address on the account.

I no longer use the email in question and marked it for closure, I selected the Close in 30 days option and it should have closed on the 19/08/2023. However, the account still seems to be there and someone is still trying to relentlessly login.

I am reluctant to login again and add extra lecturing as I would have to start the whole 30 or 60 day process again and I do not want to do that. Why is the account not deleted??

You have 60 days to re-open a closed account. The problem should resolve itself by then. It's almost certainly a bot hammering on accounts trying to steal them

Cheers Sword man! What is the point of having a “close account in 30 days” option, if it won’t close for 60 days anyway though?

Hey Abigail,

On Microsoft's Xbox website, search for the “Close Your Account” option under
your Account settings. From there, you will have to acknowledge a bunch of agreements and select a reason for closing your account.
To finish the closure, you have to click “Mark account for closure”.

Yes, you'll be able to recreate a account with the same email.

Note:

When you tap or click the Mark account for closure button,t 60 days will pass before permanently deleting your Microsoft account, in case you change your mind or need to access something associated with the account before it’s
gone forever.

During the waiting period, your account is marked for closure but it still exists. If you want to reopen your Microsoft account, just sign in again within that 60 days. We’ll cancel the account closure, and everything will be as you left it.

I tried to separate my email from my sons Fortnite account which is attached to a different email. Thought I could change just the account attached to Xbox but unknowingly deleted my email of over a decade!
