    Account locked, "Something went wrong" when requesting a verification code via text


    Bought Minecraft several days ago. Set up a new Microsoft account using a particular email (I'm asking this question from a different, older account). Launcher and game ran fine then. Tried to launch game again today, using same new email for sign in. Received and entered single-use code. Error message pops up in game launcher saying "Your account has been locked". Pressed Next, was asked to enter phone number to be texted a security code. Entered phone number. Received immediate error message "Something went wrong", so I can't receive the security code.

    Retried several times. Same result. Tried logging into Microsoft account on Microsoft website. Same result. Tried to log in using new email on Microsoft Authentication app, received error "Something went wrong. Please try again."

    Then attempted several Microsoft Account Recovery forms, using data from the singular purchase associated with this several-day-old account. All requests were denied.

    Based on your description and since you mentioned that your account is locked, I highly recommend you submit an account reinstatement form as a last resort to unlock your account:

    You may receive the results via email within 48 - 72 hours.

    If the account has been unlocked but you are still unable to recover your account, I just want to confirm did you have two-factor authentication (2FA) active on the account? If you do have the 2FA active, are you able to access the second factor of authentication? If so, please try resetting your password.     Important: The account recovery form can only be used if two-step verification isn't turned on. If the feature is enabled, the only way to recover the account is to regain access to your two-step verification phone number.

    Microsoft takes account security very seriously, that's why Account Recovery is an automated process with no human influence. If you don't have the correct information, you may not be able to get through account verification using the Recovery Form.

    The Account Recovery Form requires adequate information to prove that you are the owner of the account. The Account Recovery Process can be a time-consuming process, but providing as much info as possible from the start of the process will increase the possibility of being verified by the automated process. You'll need to keep trying until you're verified by Microsoft.

    Remember to use a familiar device from which you've frequently accessed your Microsoft account, as well as a familiar location. Microsoft will review your responses and respond within 24 hours. If you are verified, instructions on how to log back into your account will be sent to you, and if you are not verified, you will need to submit the Account Recovery form again. You can do this up to 2 times every 24 hours.

    It's important to note that Microsoft Support will not be able to grant you access to your account, you will be sent back to the Account Recovery pages that have been linked above.

    Ok so I have two step verification active/enabled. I deleted my account , cleared the system cache 3 times ,did the restart but when I went to download account I wrote in my email and the app password I received in a text but it still won't download and
    it still say "there is something wrong with your account" and gives error 80151012.

    I logged into my account on my mobile phone, or you can on PC, and got a verification code sent to my cell via text message and then entered that code in the box on my phone on my account page, then changed my password, and when I logged back in on my Xbox,
    everything worked perfect.

    The OP is locked out of their Microsoft account...they bought UGP and then wanted to cancel it the next day but couldn't access their MS account.

    Their problem is that the account became locked (for an unknown reason) and they aren't receiving the code via text message for the account recovery process

    That's the way it reads to me anyway.
