    The only way to have the tag without the suffix is to change it to a tag that nobody else has.

    Gamertag has numbers at the end even though no one else has the username

    Gamer Tags aren't always visible when you search for them for various reasons. Also, when you change a Gamer Tag it's not automatically freed up. The suffix on your chosen Gamer Tag indicates that it is being used some where already. You can learn more about

    Gamertag bug?

    If games don't support the new game tag system (which IS free and you don't have to pay for it, I've tried it myself and it mentions that it's free because it's a new thing), so if the new type of gamer tag is used, games that don't support it should show
    the letters with the number (excluding the # sign).
