A second Xbox in house but can't play on-line same game with son.

So, I know a bunch has been written on similar subject but I have one that can't find answer. Original Xbox (Xbox1): I bought ModernWarfare under my account. Wife has a Live Gold (which I didn't know). She bought bunch of games. Got a new Xbox (Xbox2)
so son and I can play Warzone together. Thru MS help, found way to download MW to new xbox. Set the new xbox (Xbox2) as Home under wife's account (Live Gold member). Xbox 1 was always Home under my account (not live gold). So! Now that we successfully
copied over MW to Xbox2, I can't access live games on Xbox1 anymore.

One MS help tech said this should work fine. Called back and another said I need to either buy another gold account for me, or another game under my wife's account for Xbox1. Before I buy another game, is this true? Sorry for long question.....

if your wife signs in on the Xbox that isn't her Home Xbox then you switch to your account you will be able to use her Live Gold.

she should sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/services/ and turn off recurring billing then when the subscription ends you get Gold on your account.

Strange thing is, I bought that game on Xbox1 - which it now doesn't allow me to open on-line gaming. Its like the rights to online gaming were transferred to Xbox 2. Xbox 1 (with the original game purchase) was my Home. So, you're saying that since I
downloaded it to Xbox 2 under her Home, I lose rights to it on Xbox 1? Just want to make sure before I buy an new game under her account for xbox 1 (if that is even possible). It may promp me that "you already have that game" or something.

New game is cheaper than buying another gold.

Sorry, let me clarify a bit. In your situation, the better option would be to buy a second gold subscription or cancel the subscription on your wife's account and repurchase it on yours or your son's account. If you were to just buy a second copy of the
game, you would still have the issue of playing online.

If you set the new console as your Home console, you and your son would both be able to access the game without having to purchase a second game. You can still play the game on the old console because you paid for it on your account.

You haven't lost the rights to the game you bought, just the ability to play online. Gold is required to play online. Since the gold is on your wife's account, you would need to being playing on her Home console or have her signed in in order to play online.
If you were to purchase gold on your account, you would then be able to play online again.

If you were to change the gold subscription from your wife's account to yours, you could set the new console as your Home to share the gold with your son, but your wife would need to play on the new console in order to play online if she wants to.

If you were to change the gold subscription from your wife's account to your son's account, your son could set the old console as his Home and you and your wife can use that console and still play online, and your son could still sign in and play online
on the new console.

Yes, that is true. Gold/games can only be shared on the Home console and you can only have 1 console set as your Home. So since your wife made the new console her Home, it removes your access to her stuff on the original console.
