  2. How sad is it that a few losers go around down voting every single positive comment about Kinect?

The message is only there on the dashboard, not in any games luckily. I HATE that the system is programed around using voice controls for everything. The menus are a pain to navigate with a controller as a result. My Kinect hasn't and won't leave the box.
I have zero desire to talk to my xbox. I don't mind that they included it for people who do want it, but the menus need to be reconfigured to be controller friendly.

You can still use the controller you just have to navigate a little more than the 360.

  5. It is a good piece of kit to have, found I use it most playing Dead Rising 3.

Here's a link to the Kinect support page incase you get stuck anywhere or have problems.

If you don't want to install it because you are afraid they are watching you just get a cover for that end. I have the first Kinect and this one and #2 is much improved. Not for controller less games but as far as controlling the home screen and apps. Some
of the games use it for voice commands and DR3 uses it to break loose if a zombie grabs you. My recommendation is at least try it. At least that way you know for your self instead of what everyone else tells you.

The Kinect was a big no buy X1 for me at first. But I went again and preordered the X1...plugged in the Kinect and honestly I am glad I did. I love the fact I can walk into my room and turn on my X1 with my voice and turn it off. I can't use the hand
gestures as my gaming space is too small but that's okay. Plug in the Kinect and give it a try.

If you play in the dark and don't want 3 red lights looking at you, don't plug it in.

The kinect is good for scanning cards, voice control is fine if you want it. If you're in a situation where you have headphones and can't make noise because others are asleep then you're not going to want it on. I can see the point of it, it's just not for
    everyone.

The gesture controls are kina meh, but the voice controls are just amazing! Try playing with voice commands for a day, and if you decide you don't like it after that I would be supprised. I actually caught myself trying to use voice commands on my DVD
player that is in the bedroom (no xbox in there).

It will tell you it's not connected if you do not plug it in. You will also lose voice commands and kinect features in games that use them and the dashboard.

It's worth having it plugged in though, it works far better than the old 360 Kinect.
