A game displaying Error code: (0xc06d007e). Not starting.

A game on the xbox app for pc is displaying 'Error code: (0xc06d007e)' and saying 'game crashed' as soon as I try to start it. I have recently had to re-install/update it, which the game forced me into as part of it's updates - then it started doing this.

I have tried windows update (which did a major update); I have repaired and reset the xbox app; I have done 'verify and repair' in game library for this game. I have run a system file checker (sfc & DISM). Not sure what to do next?

Awaiting instructions on how to get this working again. I would preferably like a quick fix rather than having to uninstall and re-install the whole game over again (which I guess would be the last option).

Thanks for replying The Xbox app on PC installs games to the C: drive by default.
Although you can change the default installation location in the app's settings, some users have also told me that the app still returns to the C: drive by default. This could be a bug or a problem with the app.

I think I already tried what you suggested. I have got fed up and just uninstalled the game and am now re-installing. Could take a while though because it's 86.4GB. If I still have issues later I'll come back. Thanks.

This incident can occur due to damaged or corrupt Windows file failures, lack of system updates, errors in the user profile, among others.

Search in the search engine, "Command Prompts" start as administrator.

Run SFC
Type the following command in the window

from the sfc /scannow command prompt

Press the Enter key to run the program
It may take between a few minutes and half an hour to complete the SFC scan. Once the process is finished, it should say Verification 100% complete and the SFC scan reveals if it found any corrupted files and informs you about repairs.

Once scannow finishes running in the command prompt, copy these lines one by one and press Enter after each command. Let each command run. It should reach 100% on the progress bar.

DISM /online /Cleanup-Image / ScanHealth DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Wait until the procedure finishes (it may take up to 10 minutes, depending on your system).

Thanks. I think I know what the problem with this game was - I have a gaming drive (E

and a Windows installation drive (C

. the Xbox app on pc always tries to default back to C: drive even if you set E: in settings. When the game updated and was installing, I noticed it was installing to the incorrect C: drive. I quickly changed this to E: in settings and hoped it would be ok, seeing as only a small amount of data had started to install.

I think that's where it went wrong.

Anyway, do you know why the drive keeps defaulting back to the Windows installation drive (C

for game installs even when you change the drive in Xbox App settings? It's very annoying having to keep remembering to make sure it's changed to the E: drive whenever I need to install anything.

Because of this defaulting the Xbox app also keeps placing an 'XboxGames' folder in my C: root, which I have to keep on deleting before I change the game save drive to E: in the Xbox app settings, so the games are installed to the correct XboxGames folder in E:.
