A Digital Download Question...

I have my eye on a few things in the countdown digital sale. But it has me wondering what would be the best way to work this out. I imagine there might be a lot of people facing similar situations throughout this sale, so I thought I'd ask and see if anyone
could clarify something that might help me out, as well as other people in the future.

So, Dragon Age Inquisition GOTY is up there now, along with one of the playable content DLC's. I already have the game (it may be the deluxe edition), but none of the playable DLC like Jaws of Haakon.

Only one of the expansions is listed for this week, in addition to the GOTY version of the game. The expansion is $10, while the GOTY is $24. Since I have no idea if they'll put up the rest of the expansions in the sale, not to mention the price for all
the DLC separately would be more than the GOTY even if they did, it'd be cheaper for me to actually get the GOTY edition than all the DLC separately.

Here's the question. If I get GOTY, will it try to DL the entire game again, with all the DLC I don't have or will it DL just the missing content? Not that it's really a big deal which way it does that, but if it re DL's everything... will I have to start
a new game or will it still work with previous saves? Not sure if anyone has tried something similar or not, but thought I'd ask.

I also wanted to throw out a tip that I learned. I'm sure a lot of the regulars here know this already, but since it's that time of year and I'm feeling the holiday spirit , there may be a few people who don't frequent this site much, who may not.

If you have a game on disc (maybe borrowed or rented) installed and you want the digital version, you can get it without having to download it. An easy way to do it is; With the game still installed on your console, take the disc out. Try to launch the game.
When the console checks for the disc (which it won't find) it will throw up a prompt asking you if you own the game. It should also give you a shortcut link straight to the download from the store. You'll still have to buy it, so it's really only a practical option if
it's just a borrowed or rented disc. For those with data caps or slow connections though, might be worth considering.

How To Save Money On Xbox One Games

I have a dumb question. Do disc versions of the games look better than digital downloads? If so I will never buy a digital download unless it's an arcade game.

 

Destiny Edition Digital on Xbox 360

My question is, will xbox 360 have a digital version download when destiny arrives the September 9 2014? or in the future xbox 360 could have a destiny digital download?

 

It shouldn't download again unless it sees it as a different game. If it does see it as a different game you can double up on the achievements don't remember exact title but I know a couple friends that played normal version than goty version to get achievements

 

It will only install the content you don't have assuming you've kept your version up to date ( patches) etc.

 

So, it looks like the answer hinges on the game that is on my console now (which is the deluxe edition, that I have kept updated) being "seen" as the same version as the one I download... which would be the GOTY. Looks to me like it could end up as pkvas
has suggested, which would probably mean starting over with another play through?

Will be interesting to see how it works if I decide to do it, which I might still do even considering I may have to start over.

If I already installed a game and it is up to date (but it is a disc copy) and the digital version becomes available for super ultra cheap.

Will the game re-install itself again when I buy the digital version?

@Lei I believe that if you installed the game on the system and tried to access it without the disc, it would ask for a disc or to download the game. If you buy the digital version of the game, it would just allow you the license to play without the disc.

I bought Black Ops 3 on disc for my son, then bought him his own Xbox One. Copied the content from the external to his his hard drive (because its quicker than installing) and bought digitally from the marketplace. No installs what so ever.

 

Last night I decided to get the GOTY edition of DAI. I verified that I do... well, I did... have the deluxe edition installed already.

After I confirmed the purchase, I checked on the DL and found that the base game and the content that came with the deluxe edition was still installed. Only the content that wasn't included with the previous version was queued and downloading. So even though
they are 'technically' 2 different versions of the game, XBL service didn't "see" it that way and simply updated the version that was already there with the content it needed.

My thoughts were leaning more towards it working this way, but it's nice to know for sure.

Also, that means Rippen's answer has the right of it. Congrats Rippen, you've won a holiday prize! A brand new, not recycled, fresh from the just opened package... Like! Hope you enjoy it, nothing like that 'new Like' smell.
